Professional Behavior In Nursing

Being a nurse is much more than the tasks you perform. Being a nurse also entitles what you do outside of your facility that you work. In this paper I will touch on the topics of professional behaviors, ethics, serving a global community, and diversity. My opinion of these overall topics will conclude what I think a nurse represents. Nursing is a profession so I believe it is expected to act like a professional. One professional behavior I think a nurse should have is care in his/her appearance. This can include the way he/she wears their uniform, the scent from the person, or just how over all the person presents themselves. I also feel the nurse should be neat, this mean their uniform, hair and makeup if desired. Another professional behavior I feel a nurse should have is a professional, polite demeanor. Ethical decisions guide you towards what you are and are not comfortable or willing to do. Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong, in a profession with dealing with people I think it is important to note your ethical and moral values to help with decision making. A downfall of ethics in nursing is that sometime in your role as a nurse it causes an internal strain between yourself and your role, and what the patient/ resident might be asking.
Being a nurse is not just serving the patients/ residents inside of an institution, it is also serving them in the community and across the world. One way to serve the global community is by raising awareness. This can be on social media platforms, or at different events. With the education that we have about health and wellness we can spread positive, accurate information to individuals who are willing to hear and learn.
