Those in the healthcare profession are respected, hardworking individuals who went above and beyond to prove themselves capable of helping others in the greatest way possible. My career goals are very straightforward. I’ve taken several steps in high school to accomplish these goals by being well disciplined in my studies, and participating in a Health Careers Internship Program. This program offers me a variety of opportunities that make me a more applicable in a healthcare setting. I’ve learned how to build a strong résumé and cover letter, and how do professional interviews well. We also get the chance to observe and participate in a medical environment. I’ll be shadowing with Dr. Steve Carr at Northern Star Therapy and learn the basics of physical therapy. I’ve done also done volunteer work in a Geriatric setting, at the St. Benedict nursing home in St. Cloud. My plans following high school are to attend the University of Minnesota in the College of Biological Sciences. My hopes are to complete my undergraduate in there in the Pre-Medicine program, attend graduate school, and specialize in a currently undecided field of…

The three-career Assessment taken last week was an eye opener for me. This is because it makes me understand some new thing about myself. Let me start by analyzing the Triatify Assessment, this assessment gives me a better understand of the kind of person I am or let me say, who am going to become. One thing that surprised me after taking the assessment is that, it said that “I’m a kind of person who is comfortable being the center of attention. My friends admire this about me because I’m not only the life of a party but I have a big heart helping people”. I know this about myself because this is not the first-time people will say something like this to me. I’m a kind of person who loves to go out of my comfort to satisfy people around me,…
The career I am looking to become is a Physician’s Assistant. Physician Assistants (PA) practice medicine with physicians and surgeons. PA’s treat and examine patients, and work in all areas of medicine including: family care, primary care, emergency medicine, etc. I chose this career because in everyday life I work hard to put others before myself, I strive to assist others in time of need and always have enjoyed being able to help someone with small injuries, cuts, and infections. It is important to understand the education and training requirements, skills or talents needed, salary and benefits offered, and the duties for a particular career when making this decision.…
Coming from a remote village in India where access to medical care is limited, I have had the dream of becoming a physician since I was very young. But, being a curious individual, growing up I became fascinated toward other career paths in my childhood as well. For example, I wanted to become a pilot when I was in second grade, and wanted to become a professional volleyball player when I was in fifth grade. I am glad that I spent enough time in researching those career paths that I had absolutely no hesitation or distraction when I started pursuing my career in medicine. Today, I can say that pediatrics is my only career interest.…
I am presently a first-year student at Brown Medical School in Providence, Rhode Island. I graduated from Amherst College in 2005 with a bachelor of arts degree cum laude in Biochemistry. My career goal at this point is to be a primary care physician in a community-based hospital similar to the one where I volunteered during my college years. I hope to serve a multicultural patient population and specifically provide preventive care to adolescents and women. Since enrolling at Brown, I have participated in the Adolescent Health Education Project in which groups of medical students visit local high schools and community centers once a week to discuss health issues with…

From the tender age of seven, I knew I wanted to become a physician who does not see patients as a string of signs and symptoms, but view them as human beings in need of care, kindness and compassion during their time of sickness. I want to become a physician who has a strong sense of leadership, unique perspective on patients-centered care and able to provide equitable distribution of health. As I progressed through my academic career and became enticed with the field of osteopathic medicine, I knew I wanted to pursue a lifelong career as a primary care physician. The unique field of primary care medicine is the only discipline which will enable me to execute my vision for the type of physician that I want to become.…
