Professional Counseling Personal Statement

At this point in my professional career, I feel I have exhausted almost every possible path of promotion and opportunity at my current academic level. It has always been my goal to obtain an advanced degree and licensure in counseling. However, being a working single parent, I decided it was better to prolong my entrance into graduate school to allow my two younger children to have as much of my time and attention as possible to devote toward their growth and development. During this time, I have maintained a constant and consistent path in getting to this point. I have gained valuable knowledge and insights in the field of counseling through working closely with therapists and other clinical staff but have only been able to observe and offer
For those reasons I have been afforded opportunities to sit at the table with members of upper management, therapists, and psychiatrist to discuss ways to improve the lives of the children and families we serve. I have worked with families and children for many years now, it has always been my passion. Job titles that I have fulfilled range from case manager, family involvement coordinator, youth advisor/counselor, recreation assistant, teacher counselor, and unit coordinator. Presently I am working in a diminished role as an administrative assistant with my employer to allow me to pursue my master’s degree and licensure. After conducting some research, Walden was then and still is now the best fit for me and my future goals. This decision isn’t solely based on the flexibility and convenience that comes with an online program, but on the quality of the program and courses offered. The coursework in Walden’s clinical mental health counselor program is extensive and cover all the areas that are important to one being successful in their chosen career field. Furthermore, the coursework will help me to be well prepared and qualified to sit for testing for
