Professionalism Reflection
1. I demonstrated professionalism in communicating with faculty: via email, phone and in person.
a. I demonstrated a professional attitude when communicating with both faculty and my direct EDT 110 professor. On one occasion, while suffering from the flu, I wrote a professional email to my advisor, informing her that I was unable to attend class and would do whatever needed to be done to catch up. On other occasions, when meeting with faculty, I demonstrated punctuality and alertness while speaking and listening. There was always a professional tone to my voice when speaking both through technology and in person.

2. I demonstrated professionalism through attendance and participation in class.

I demonstrated effort, punctuality and a commitment to high quality work in completing all course assignments.
a. I completed all course assignments on time and placed a high amount of effort in everything that I did. If corrections needed to be done on my assignments, I would make them in a timely fashion and resubmit my document. I was committed to high quality work, which in the end, paid off because I maintained an A in the course.

4. I demonstrated a willingness to actively engage with peers/classmates in building a community of learners.
a. Group work was a large part of my EDT 110 curriculum. I was actively engaged in my group’s work. I showed a willingness to participate in my Group’s project on Minorities in the Classroom. I did my part and worked to help others finish theirs. I often was the one facilitating the group conversations during class. However, there were times I would get a bit awkward and not say what I wanted to. This is what my DAP interview critiques touched on - saying I needed to develop a voice. As a result, I will continue to work towards my voice each and every day.

5. I demonstrated knowledge of standards and Marianist Characteristics, which includes critical reflection of these standards and

This DAP interview pushed me outside of my comfort zones. On my own, I am very engaged and it is easy for me to turn on the charm. In group scenarios, it is difficult for me to find my voice and not hide in my awkward shell. I often close off myself to others for fear that they will judge what I have to say. During the DAP interview, I found that it was fairly relaxed, which in turn made me more comfortable and willing to share what I have to say. As for personal meaning, it was really good for me to be challenged with these questions and think about how I personally think about them, rather than listening to all these other individuals, trying to see where I fit in best. It allowed for me to work on my collaboration skills as well, which will be beneficial later down the line.

b) If you received suggested activities to participate in based on areas identified as “Developing”, how beneficial were the activities you engaged in? Have you noticed that you are now more aware of how you demonstrate those particular dispositions or behaviors?
a. I was not suggested any activities to participate in. However, as a side tip for myself, from my DAP interview was to put myself out there. I was told that I have really beneficial things to say but I overthink and don’t say them. I am now much more aware of what I do, therefore I have been working towards saying what I am thinking, rather than swallowing

As she went on one point that jumped out to me was her concept of P.I.E. Before hearing her bring that acronym up I had never heard it before. P.I.E stands for performance, image, and exposure. Performance would be how effective you are in your position. Image is what they think of you. In addition to image, she said in the first 3 to 5 seconds a person is already forming their opinion about you through simple things like the way you dress, the people you hang around, or even the music you listen to. Finally she said exposure meaning that one would have to network strategically. Just about everyday it is reinforced that this is a…

In our textbook, Business Communications: Polishing Your Professional Presence, professionalism is described, as the qualities that make you appear business like in the workplace. The textbook defines it as being appropriate, clear, and ethical. Some things that they included were style, word choice in writing and presenting, body language, and even tone. In one of the letters I proposed, I had to be professional and construct myself as an employee from an insurance company. It was important to apologize and be sympathetic with the customer even when I thought I was explaining details right on the phone. It’s professional to apologize and be the bigger person, in which I did. Being professional isn’t only about being appropriate and polite but also using good ethics. Decision making was a big factor in the emails and letters. Deciding how to apologize and break bad news was tough but it was exciting and taught me how to stay professional and use good ethics.…

After making the right group of friends at the time, they urged me to open up and not be so tense. While getting to know them, I noticed how they were like me, but they were so confident when speaking in front of others. Their voice never shook and they didn’t stumble over their words. They spoke with ease and assurance, while I was choking up every single time I tried to utter a single sentence. I constantly tried to articulate my words as best as I could, but every time I did, I would just get discouraged. This discouragement stuck with me all the way until the beginning of high school.…
