Advertisement Essay
In this magazine ad (courtesy of Nylon magazine) we have 3 young girls posing for a clothing brand. The credibility or ethos we can rely on is the company Buffalo by David Bitton. Since it is a well-known brand, people can trust that this company has goodwill and character. Plus, it is an advertisement from a magazine called Nylon which is among one of the popular fashion magazines that are distributed throughout stores. We can find credibility in the magazine and brand name.
The logical appeal (logos) that this advertisement has is perhaps the convenience of the clothing. We can say that the type of clothing they are wearing is good for a warm weather since they aren't wearing too much or it can also be good for going out. From what is seen from this one ad one can argue that the clothing is occasionally appropriate.
The emotional appeal that comes from this ad is the trendy lifestyle of the generation. There are young girls that are modeling these clothing, and may convey a message that if one were to wear these type of clothes, they'd feel young and stylish as well. Not only are they young but they are revealing more than a decent amount of skin which shows sex appeal. They also are thin and tall young girls who would make other girls feel threatened and envious of these models and therefore would aim to look just like them. Then again, most girls disregard their looks and accept themselves so one would also feel attractive by this type of clothing.

They draw you in by bold tasteful colors, typical models, and sexual messages. The Victoria’s Secret and the Polo ad both used dark colors to set the mood to an intense commercial. The characters play a secretive role that makes you interested in what this attractive figure has. The difference is the Victoria’s secret ad is a dominant girl advertisement and Polo is strictly to attract male buyers. In a majority of these ads, a larger model is never shown. That alone sets the audience to a select few. People will always compare themselves to these models and if they don’t feel like they are good enough, they will never purchase that…

The logos of the commercial, the logic arguments of rhetoric, were used in this commercial with a purpose of persuading the audience. They use supermodels to show the consumer that if you buy the product you will look attractive. As a rhetoric strategy they used hyperbole because as we can see in the video these supermodels wear this underwear with the purpose of selling you this product, but with a really exotic background, like expensive cars and a…

    The Gift By Li-Young Lee

Li-Young Lee’s, “The Gift” unquestionably communicates several ideas, some rather direct, and others buried within the rhetoric and composition of the poem. Although the meaning (of the poem) may be left to interpretation, one of the most prominent concepts of the story, in my belief, is the gift of love and consequent tradition of offering it to loved ones. In the beginning of the poem, the narrator describes his father comforting him in the painful situation of removing a metal splinter from his hand: “My father recited a story in a low voice. I watched his lovely face and not the blade.” The father’s calm and affectionate demeanor can be further attested to in the second stanza, “...I recall his hands, two measures of tenderness, he laid…

This image shows the effects that it has on its audience that can lead to negative outcomes, whereas Dove is trying to change our culture perception of real women. The fashion industry is known for its eating disorder and unhealthy habits because of ads like victoria's secret. When women look at the models they don't know that most have to do those things just to stay in the industry because not every model is naturally skim. Hollister Ad

    • 768 Words

To begin with, very many of Hollister and Abercrombie clothing ads appeal to pathos. You can see that in most of the ads for Hollister clothing the models they use have sex appeal. The women are slim and have tight, skinny, and very proportioned bodies. What I mean by proportioned is they have the butt to flaunt in Hollister jeans or shorts for women and have the cleavage for a Hollister V-neck shirt or bikinis for women. Then there are the men models, which are usually shirtless and muscular, sporting some sort of clothing of Hollister for men. Then again, Hollister clothing is beach style clothing so it would make sense to have these male and female models show a lot of skin. These, in lack of a better word, sexy models appeal to people’s sex appeal; they want to feel and look as sexy as the models in the Hollister ads, therefore appealing to pathos.…

When thinking of advertisements, for some odd reason, I immediately will think of Cover Girl makeup ads that are often found in almost every woman’s magazine. However, this particular advertisement features country music superstar Taylor Swift and very similar to all of their distinctive ads focuses mostly on her face. This ad is for their new “natureluxe silk foundation- luxury touched by nature.” From this relatively simple ad, as it only contains a close up of Taylor Swift as well as text, it allows for the discussion of it’s unique aesthetics.…

It can be found at the following link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=kZz03icMzdE. The commercial is showing some models men and women dressed in Calvin Kline undergarments and jeans dancing and showing off how great they look in the Calvin Kline products. The writer feels that this commercial was intended to target the adolescent age group, between the ages of 15-20. This commercial was to appeal to both male and female alike because it is advertising both male and female clothing. The subliminal message that this commercial sends is that you have to look a certain way or be a certain size in order to look your best in the Calvin Kline attire. This ad could be interpreted very differently depending on gender. For girls it could be perceived that in order to wear the Calvin Kline undergarments they have to be a certain size. The models in the advertisement were all very thin women.…

When other women see this ad, it is going to make them question their appearance. They are going to sit there and wonder about how their significant other thinks about them. It puts them in depression mode and pick’s out all their flaws. They will ponder on how they are too fat or too skinny, and why they aren’t pretty enough to be on a front page of a magazine. Which that would lead to depression and self- esteem issues. By me deciding to do this ad, it made me realized how men categorize us women. It also made me realize how average man belittles us daily. They will look at us on a numerical scale of hot or datable we…

This advertisement is for Armani Jeans. Armani is also very well known for his designer jeans. Armani is more expensive than Calvin Klein and is not worn by many people. Armani is directed toward the upper class and is known by his label for his prices. This ad shows a man standing outside presumably in the snow. He is not such a popular model but he still has an impact for the advertisement. He is featured wearing a black jean-jacket and a baseball cap with "AJ" and the symbol of the Armani bird. The clothing this model is wearing is also very plain. The model has a very serious expression on his face. The whole picture is very bold and expressive. He looks very powerful and determined. His face has been shaven and his hair is apparently short. This is the look many male models have. His face seems very symmetrical and well defined. This advertisement is also achieving the same thing the Calvin Klein advertisement achieves. This achievement is creating an image for men in today's society by displaying an attractive man dressed in expensive clothing which makes him desirable. This look is what men are trying to achieve today. Men feel by achieving this look they will be desired and if they do not look or dress this way they will be worthless. To attain this look is as hard for men as it is for women. The cost of the clothing is very expensive and to have the clothing one must have the money for…
