Progress
In order to advance toward a higher or better stage one must change. The road to progress requires more than trying but trying your best that gets you to where you want to be in life. In some instances change may not lead to progress but to failure but it’s just a part of life. One may have to fail first before they can make progress. Change can be difficult.
Progress is impossible without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. Making progress; evolving; becoming more than we are requires us to change what we are doing or how we think of something to do something better. It is unfortunate that humans resist change no matter if it is a good or bad change. Change is different therefore we may not like it and it is going to make us think or change our mind set but after all it will benefit us. Half of one’s life is spent forcefully ignoring innovators, yet occasionally those innovators turn out to be right. They are the ones that influence us, allowing us to change. “Why should I take school seriously after it no longer matter?” a statement that came to my head frequently as free time was becoming my friend. Then, following the normal course of procrastination, doubts began to creep up; taking school seriously could positively impact my future. Realizing that those innovators had helped transformed my life and allowed me to see that progress can be made.
It’s amazing how a little change can make such a big difference. That little change can determine your success, what you become in life or in other words your future. It’s never too late to make a difference because that very last minute you make a decision to change can add years of progress. The road of success is better than the road of failure so never hesitate to change.
Commager, Henry S. once said, “Change does not necessarily assure progress, but progress implacably requires change. Education is essential to change, for education creates both new wants and the ability to satisfy them.”
Leaders love progress. Progress is what keeps them coming back to the task. Nothing is more discouraging to a leader than the prospect of being stranded in an environment where progress is impossible. Progress requires change. If an organization, ministry, business, or relationship is going to make progress, it must change. That is, over time it is must evolve into something different. It must become better, more relevant, better aligned and more strategic. Where there’s no progress, there’s no growth. If there’s no growth, there’s no life.
Whatever the trouble is, for change to occur thought must change. Wherever thought leads, experience follows. But for there to be a genuine and real change in experience, there has to be a change in thought. It’s an interesting occurrence to observe in the human mind. Often times people want change in their lives, but wait on time for the changes to occur rather than digging into the truth of being and making those changes occur by getting their thought into a better position.
It’s like a business facing a declining customer base waiting for time to pass for more customers to come. Time doesn’t bring customers. Demonstrated value, worth, merit, and usefulness draw attention to a business and bring more customers. So, when our condition looks bleak or disappointing, the cure is not going to come from waiting around for something to change. Nothing may change at all, or conditions could worsen. The opportunity is for you to turn to education, get a better perspective, implement and act on that higher perspective, and make the changes occur.
Progress requires change, change in thought, perspective, outlook and expectation. Always remember if the first step to change does not seem like what you want, don’t give up because a few more steps and you would have made progress.
