Project Management Concepts and Application Paper
The company I work for is a private engineering consulting firm. Brown and Caldwell is the largest engineering consulting firm solely focused on the U.S. environmental sector. Our services include utilities, government, technology, industry, water, and environmental. I am currently working on a project in which involves increasing the number of monthly project reviews, which is an area that I am responsible for monitoring. This area is the most monitored of all because my organization has a large issue meeting the company required metrics put in place by the Project Management Office. I have until our fiscal year end to bring those numbers up. We have many projects throughout our Phoenix office managed by several project managers. The monthly reviews are to be conducted by the project manager, the project analyst, and the monitoring manager to ensure the project is on track for success and that it does not present any risks. The primary goals of the monthly reviews include:
• Review financial status.
• Identify potential out of scope work that justifies a change order.
• Identify potential project risks.
• Identify schedule status or delays.
• Evaluate client happiness.
This project will be carried out in a specific amount of time to achieve an improvement to the requested metrics, which in this case is to increase the number of documented reviews. According to, Chapter One of our book, which identifies some of the characteristics of a project, I can identify several that apply to this project. For one, it has an established objective to increase the number of monthly project reviews. The life span of the project consists of completing it by the end of our fiscal year.
