Project Scope Statement
Statement of Work—Project Description and
Project Product We intend to revamp and redevelop a former playground for the Conrad Fischer Elementary School and local community. The necessary steps to do this will include at least a minimum of 50 volunteers in order to complete the new playground within a week’s period, working Monday through Monday. We will use new items and recyclable material, while still following school, city, and playground guidelines.
The project itself will create a playground on the school grounds of Conrad Fischer Elementary School, but will serve as the neighborhood playground with a neighborhood entrance. We will be using new equipment, recyclable equipment, and mainly plastic equipment. We will use Cedar wood chips for older children’s playground and rubber matting for the younger children’s playground. We will use a local community gardener to plant new flowers and plants. We will use volunteers to place the equipment. A contractor however, will be hired to repave an old basketball court. At the end of the project the playground should be able to serve in a safe manner the lower and upper elementary classes of Conrad Fischer, as well as the local neighborhood children and parents. The playground will also be able to serve all levels of care with children. ADA guidelines will be met to give a safe and happy place for all children to play.

Memorial Splash Park has gone through the early planning stages. It is now time to take what the committee has composed on paper, and turn it into a reality. The planning stages has taken a total of three months to accurately address timing, sitting/sizing, cost, potential funding, and community research for the park. Once those issues were calculated and discussed, then the additional issues of which park elements will be used, security, and maintenance of the splash park was addressed. The proposal of Memorial Splash Park has been presented to the board, as well as all research in regards to cost, sitting, sizing, funding options, equipment/labor needed, security, maintenance, and community surveys. The proposal was voted 6 to 1 in favor of construction of Memorial Splash Park. I, and the committee, have to decide to break ground September 4th, 2012 and complete construction exactly four months from the date. A brief, but detailed, account will be given as to the steps taken over the four months to get the park up and running.…

I made my way across the parking lot, towards the entrance to the gym. As I reached the double doors I paused, then slowly turning, I attempted to take in as much of the outside view as I could. I saw a green meadow dotted with a few thoughtfully placed picnic tables, a few baseball, and soccer fields. I also noticed that this place is home to a busy skateboard park right beside a well-kept playground. My pan of the scene had revealed to me that this place has grown into something more than what I had remembered it to be. Today this center welcomes people of all ages. In contrast, when the U.S. Air Force ran this facility it was for military personnel and their adult dependents. It was a simple gymnasium with a couple of minimally groomed baseball diamonds and multipurpose fields, lacking any beauty. Today, the sturdy old building and surrounding fields are a beautiful sight to behold, and maintained by a local community services organization. The quick survey of the sports center had reminded me that this place is still serving the community in a big way with its available venues and activities.…

    Ball Ramp Observation

The experience I will plan based on what I observed is a ball ramp. The child seemed to be enjoying themselves by watching the ball fall from the play table onto the floor and then starting over by placing it back on the table. The ball ramp experience would be like a marble run but on a larger scale. The children would place the ball on the elevated side of the ramp and watch it roll down the slide. I would need a few pieces of cardboard, to make the ramp, tape, to put the keep the ramp together, balls and cars of any size, other objects that are not round to demonstrate the not everything will roll down the ramp and weight and a box to elevate one side of the ramp. I believe this activity could be implemented indoors or outdoors in an open…

There are thousands of children who play sports in the communities on facilities supported by residents through their tax dollars. The Miracle League of El Paso provides disabled children and young adults in our communities who cannot participate in a sport on a conventional field with a place to play baseball. The Miracle League of El Paso removes the obstructions that stop children with disabilities off the baseball field and allows them to experience playing the field. The main obstruction for disabled children starts from the natural grass fields. The Miracle League of El Paso is about building self-esteem, making new friends, and confidence. The Miracle League of El Paso applies a "buddy" system – coupling each player with a peer volunteer to help the players. The Miracle League of El Paso 's strategic plan is to work closely with the Junior League of El Paso, Inc. and partnerships with the public leaders, and follow their directions, establishing a possible benefactor record. The short-term goal is the planning for an accessible, adaptable playground for the back area of the field. The Miracle League of El Paso plans to advertise and campaign to raise the needed $350,000 for the construction of the playground.…

Art materials foster creativity and appreciation of beauty. Hardwood blocks teach children about geometry, shapes, balance and of course gravity when the towers come crashing down. Experimental materials like sand, water and clay offer the child control as she shapes and distributes the materials, and appeals to her senses. Outdoor play equipment builds muscles and confidence that the child can meet physical challenges. Pretend play with dolls and stuffed animals is not only imaginative but also allows the child to try…
