Prom Night

Prom Night is a horror movie about a girl, Donna Keppel, who goes to prom and is being chased by her deranged high school teacher, Mr. Fenton who is obsessed with her. She witnessed him murdered her family to be with her. Prom Night engages viewers through suspense, conflict, and unexpected endings.

This movie has a lot of suspenseful parts. One part is when Donna is having a night mare about her past, when Mr. Fenton comes to her house and murders her family. This is suspenseful because after Mr. Fenton kills her father and younger brother he chases her mother into her room and chokes her and this happens as Donna is under her bed witnessing her mother being killed. Another part that is suspenseful is when her friend goes up to their hotel room and Mr. Fenton is hiding in the closet, this part make you kind of scared. Also the most suspenseful part ,in my opinion, in the movie is when Donna goes back for her scarf and Mr. Fenton is disguised as a bellboy, he could have killed her when she went back up.

Conflict comes up in this movie often. There are three types of conflict; man vs man, man vs self and man vs nature . Mr. Fenton escaping from prison is a conflict because he was sentenced to life in prison that is man vs man. When Donna is being chased after him that is also man vs man. Mr. Fenton goes to the hotel where the prom is at and finds out the room Donna and her friends are staying in and hides in the closet and kills them one by one this is also man vs man.

Unexpected endings are very shocking including the ones in this movie. Like, Mr. Fenton is in the hotel room as Donna gets her scarf and closes the door and sees Mr. Fenton's reflection and gets chased by him. This is an unexpected ending because I did not expect him to actually be behind her I just though it was her imagination playing with her. Another unexpected ending is when Donna gets home and sleeps, has a nightmare and wakes up and everything that happened in her

The type of conflict supports the story by showing a man who is against the world and trying to build a life while also trying to not forget his roots. This is shown when the young man is playing basketball as he did as a child (367-368). The books ends with the protagonist living in the city and working in a high school exchange program (368). The last words the protagonist says are “I know how all of my dreams end anyway.” This shows that even though the protagonist now has a better job and he seems to be on the right track, he feels as if he’s not where he’s supposed to…

1619, European settlers travelled to North America. They’ve found people that are not like them, different coloured skin, work differently, etc. The European settlers were stunned, due to the fact they have never seen people unlike them. The “new” people were coloured people, most likely Africans. The European settlers took them back to Jamestown, Virginia. Coloured people were now considered slaves, who had to do free labour for the white people. Some jobs they had were, cotton picking, weaving, railroad making, etc. Slavery lasted for many years, but stopped in 1865. Although the slaves were free, the white people were panicked that the coloured people will come back to them and attack them. So, they have decided to segregate, the white…

In literature, there are four types of major conflicts, and in many cases these conflicts are beyond the characters control. These four types of conflicts are man versus another man, for example in The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, a major man versus man conflict are the rival gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. Another conflict is man versus nature, where a person is in trouble with a force of nature, like a tornado, or in this case a fire. Man versus society is where a character has conflicts with society’s views on “outsiders” and people who do not fit in. An man versus self, is where a character struggles against him or herself, with unwanted feelings. The main types of conflict that can be found in this book are, man versus man, man versus…

Conflict is a universal concept that can be started in various ways, often leading to arguments or violence. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, conflict arises of ten and between many characters. In Act 3 Scene 1, Tybalt, Mercutio and Romeo struggle to contain their anger leading to violence and death. In Act 1, Lady Capulet and Juliet both harbour their own desires about marriage that are conflicting. Finally, Tybalt's desire to dispel Romeo at the party scene shows him internal hatred rising uncontrolled to the surface. All of these scenes show that an individual's inability to control their selfish desires leads to conflict.…

The conflict is introduced by means of a complication that sets in motion the rising action, usually toward a climax and eventual resolution" (Charters 1782).…
