Overview: The commercial is conducted as an interview with a dentist. Analysis: The credibility of the speaker is established through the use of the dentist and her recommendation of the product. Dr. Temilade Kadree is the speaker in this commercial and her position as a dentist is established within the first few minutes of the advertisement. It utilizes the use of logical appeals by having the dentist list facts about the process of whitening one’s teeth. Dr. Kadree tells us that the strength of the enamel is integral to the whitening process, and thus makes the recommended toothpaste essential to the viewer. Despite this appeal taking up a bulk of the commercial’s run time, however, the most prominent appeal, in my opinion, is the appeal to Ethos. The entire commercial centers around the the presented authority figure, the dentist, who serves as an authority on the subject of toothpaste. The whole commercial is built around the subject of her credibility. If we did not trust Dr. Kadree as an expert in the matters of teeth, the commercial would not have had the same effect. Lastly, the commercial addresses the appeal to emotion in a way that directly ties into the message, which is “If you buy this toothpaste, you will have beautiful, perfect, impeccable teeth.” The commercial uses the buzzwords “whiter” and “brighter” towards the end of the commercial in order to sell their point. These buzzwords serve as appeals to emotion because they create visceral responses in the viewer. They are meant to grab their attention and hold it while the final points are made and they are meant to inspire a longing for whiter
