Propaganda During Ww2
We saw during WWII the rise of fascism, Nazism, and radical nationalism. However, the cause that the propaganda touted was in direct contrast to the means by which the oppression was carried out. Dictators that preached a supreme and pure race (desiring the cleansing of anti-Christian blood) propagated the worst forms of mass extinction yet initiated. No signs of Christianity or supremacy would by evident from an objective spectator. Yet we did. We saw all kinds of grounds and justification for the maintenance of a culture which did not even exist. For love of country; (noble words) but do they mean country or cause. When nationalism becomes something of an ideal rather than devotion, it becomes very dangerous. When patriotism becomes more

Women were also largely part of the war effort, although they were not allowed to enlist as soldiers, they helped by enlisting as nurses, treating those wounded from battle, or by working the jobs men did before the war, supplying ammunition to be used. Propaganda was also used to persuade women into sending their sons or husbands to enlist in the army. The government persuaded women to take jobs in factories, creating ammunition and weapons, by saying they should ‘do their part’ while men were fighting in trenches. Propaganda aimed at recruits for nurses targeted maternal instincts and religious beliefs, for instance in the red cross ‘help’ poster. The woman in the poster has her arms outstretched, standing in front of a cross, resembling…

Nationalism can unify people and have them strive for a higher cause. A nation that stands as one is stronger and can accomplish much more. Yet overbearing nationalism can cause individuals of that nation to lose sight of the humanity of others. Nationalism can lead people to think that anyone who does not share their way of life is lesser than they, which can lead to heinous actions. World War II saw both sides of nationalism, as it helped bring in some of the greatest advancements in modern history, while also contributing to some of the greatest horrors in modern history. As long as there are borders and different races, nationalist pride and racial stereotypes are an unavoidable part of human life. Humanity is often lost in times of war, as people look at what separates us, instead of looking at all we…

One specific type of propaganda used by the Nazis in WWII was the propaganda “fear”. The Nazis used this to persuade the Germans and everyone else if they don’t get rid of the jews no they will overpower and eventually destroy what they had accomplished. The Nazis would use “fear” by making posters, books, speeches, etc. saying if they don’t eliminate the jews the jews would eliminate them. The United States used the propaganda “fear” as well by claiming if they did not lock away the Japanese-Americans we would all be killed because they were “spies”. The United states used the propaganda fear to have the Japanese-Americans incarcerated and to have fellow people believe they were spies. As you see from history the propaganda fear that was…

Literature can be an extremely powerful tool of persuasion. One man with one idea has the potential to influence hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people through writing. In fact, one particularly influential piece of literature convinced an entire population of people to ostracize, shun, and even murder their fellow citizens. Compelling texts such as Hitler’s Mein kampf allow me to believe that literature could be considered propaganda. These pieces of literature, when written to pacify a specific audience, can strongly appeal to humanity’s “passions”, as Plato suggests. I believe that authors use literature as a vehicle to demonstrate their personal beliefs and influence their audience to share those beliefs.…

Propaganda is often seen as negative, because of its use of exaggerated statistics or false statements to manipulate whomever is looking at that poster or advertisement to believe that it’s true. For example, the propaganda in Nazi Germany, they would control what the German citizens could see, read, and hear. Dr. Joseph Goebbels, was put in charge by Hitler, in order to control the propaganda that the public population had access to. Therefore, it was his job to make sure that the German citizens were only allowed contact to what made the Nazi campaign seem like the best and only opinions they had. Goebbels said “The essence of propaganda consists in winning people over to an idea so sincerely, so vitally, that in the end they succumb to…

Poverty is when having very little or no money and very few or no material possessions. As for development is the act of improvement meaning gaining, expanding, or enlarging. Inequality and poverty can cause a country not to develop well, unless you have a good strategy. In this case I will show you a developed country (Spain) and a under developed county (Chad). I will do this by explaining four disparities of the same for both countries. Those disparities are total population, unemployment rate, and condom use.…

The Holocaust was a very brutal event that took place in Europe in the 20th Century. It was genocide; Adolf Hitler and the Nazis murdered about 6 million Jews. This began after Hitler was announced Chancellor of Germany on January 30, 1933. The Holocaust did not affect just Germany, but the whole world. Hitler with his convincing speeches persuaded many people to go against the Jews. He formed a political party called the Nazis and together they ruined many Jews’ lives. Even though the outcome of World War II was influenced by the technology utilized by the nations participating in the war, the outcome was also dependent on a manipulative form of information. That manipulative form of information is also known as “propaganda.” During World War II, propaganda was used to effectively: demoralize enemies, spread news, increase country morale, and indoctrinate civilians. Thanks to the use of propaganda, the outcome of the world favored the Allied Powers, but it also affected the core values of societies during and after World War II. World War II propaganda caused the populations of Japan, United States, Great Britain, Germany, and the Soviet Union to change their core value from “treating people ethically and…

It can be seen that the source that was given supports nationalism to a certain degree. They explain all of the positive things about embracing nationalism while giving only one small negative point. The positive points clearly prevail over the negative point which helps show the reader the author’s position on this issue. It can be seen that only self-determined countries are legitimate. The government that runs the nation-state, achieves this self-determination by gaining and keeping the support of its citizens. This results in the citizens coming together as a civic nation and having great pride in their country. If this self-determined country is created from ultra-nationalistic beliefs it will lead into a country that believes that they are far superior to other nation-states thus causing atrocities across the world. These ultra-nationalistic beliefs were able to create many wars and genocides throughout the world.…
