Propaganda Of Forensics Case Study
In the year of 2004 on the fourth day of February, The state of Texas executed Cameron Todd Willingham for allegedly burning all three of his children alive. However, the only evidence to validate the allegation was a fingerprint plastered with ash upon his gas canister. With vigorous research Cameron Todd's peers raised some brows all over the nation concerning his innocence. Coupled with the sickening lack of investigation his supporters found his punishment to be downright ludicrous, exclaiming that "prosecutors just murdered an innocent man!" This is one of many cases in which forensics have failed the justice system due to insufficient forensic process. Forensic scientist have inflated the propaganda of forensics' legitimacy via T.V shows
and superfluous vocabulary. In the long run fingerprint inspection has ruined lives time and time again. Moreover hair follicle analysis lacks a database which characteristics of every single persons follicles are entailed. Lastly bite mark analysis has come under mass scrutiny and is classified as "extinct".
Scientist regarded the fingerprint method as the "gold standard" for a number of years. According to the National Academies of Sciences, no peer reviewed scientific studies have ever been done to prove the basic assumption that every person’s fingerprint is unique. Yet with this official statement, fingerprint analysis is pressed to be untouchable and in many cases an indefinite amount of evidence.
