Proposal Essay On Asthma
My name is Melisa Fay and I am here as a concerned college student who is also representing Regis College for the City of Weston. I wish to express our support of S. 1195, “An Act Relative to Healthy Schools.”
I am here to testify in support of S. 1195, “The Healthy Cleaning Products Act”. Senator Michael O. Moore sponsors this bill. This bill’s purpose is to reduce the health risks especially asthma from cleaning products in specific areas. In the specific areas of schools, hospitals and other health care facilities, day care centers, public buildings, and public housing, cleaning products are only allowed if stated on the Healthy Cleaning Products list. I am fully in support of this bill because these specific areas will now be regulated on the specific cleaning products being used. Also the Massachusetts Department of Public Health supports S.1195.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC, 2015), Asthma within the United States is among millions of children and adults. The number of adults who are currently living with asthma is 18.7 million and children 6.8 million (CDC, 2015). As of 2008 Massachusetts alone had a high rate of children and adults living with asthma then the United States (CDC, 2008). Even though asthma is a chronic

In 2010 a “Cleaning for Healthier Schools Infection Control Handbook” was created by members of the workgroup Cleaning for Healthier Schools Infection Control (CDPH, 2010). This was a huge accomplishment by the workgroup after several conference calls that went on for many years. This handbook is designed for school systems to “implement effective infection-control practices while minimizing the use of, and exposure to, toxic products” (CDPH, 2010). Its purpose is to educate users about what they are using for cleaning products and where the proper places are for

One of my goals is to promote healthy habits. To establish and maintain a healthy environment is to prevent the spread of germs and promote healthy eating habits. Germs can be easily spread among the age group of children in my care, because they are in close contact with each other. One of the ways I promote a healthy environment is hand washing. I wash my hands and wear gloves before and after handling food, helping with toileting, changing diapers and cleaning noses. I have the children wash their hands during similar times and ensure that they do it properly. Cleaning and sanitizing play areas daily and mouthed toys are immediately removed from the play area and sanitized at the end of the day. I teach the children about healthy eating on a daily basis. At lunch and snack time we talk about the healthy foods and not so healthy foods that they are eating and what food is best for their growing bodies. I have two weeks of lesson…

Inspiration/ inhalation is the first half of the respiratory cycle where breath is drawn. Several muscles in the respiratory system contribute to the process of inhalation. However, the diaphragm and the external and internal intercostals are the primary muscles of inhalation. The diaphragm originates at ribs 7 through 12, the xiphoid process, and the first 3 lumbar vertebrae. The diaphragm inserts on its’ central tendon which it pulls down and forwards through contraction in order to increase the size of the thoracic cavity and compress the abdominal viscera. When the diaphragm contracts and pulls down the central tendon it flattens in result. Thus, allowing the lungs to be pulled down and the lung capacity to increase. Unlike most muscles in the respiratory system, the diaphragm is unpaired. In contrary, there are 11 pairs of both external and internal intercostal muscles. The intercostal muscles originate at the inferior surface of ribs 1 through 11 and insert on the superior surface of the next lower…

My goal in this functional area is to help my students stay healthy as possible by doing my best to limit the number of germs my students come into contact with during the day as well as teaching children healthy habits. Ensuring a child’s health is important because children who are not healthy do not to benefit from the childcare program they are in or the learning opportunities they are presented with. So in order to ensure children's health I plan on teaching children when to wash their hands, the correct way of washing their hands and why it is so important. I plan on making sure my students wash their hands after using the restroom and sneezing or coughing into their hands. I also plan on complying with my daycares exclusion policy and excluding any sick children from class to keep them from spreading germs to other students. I plan on…

My goal is in this are is to prevent the spread of germs in the childcare classroom. This is very important because children do not have the control over their body functions and germs can spread quickly. All toys are sanitized weekly, and the bathrooms are cleaned daily. During naptime, I make sure every child has his/her own bedding which are to be sanitized weekly. I do a health check on the children to see if anyone has visible scratches, bruises, scrapes, rashes, runny noses, and eyes. To establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment I model safety practices and healthy routines in an environment that supports development and growth in these areas. My goal is to provide a clean healthy environment that meets each child’s physical needs. Making sure the classroom and playground are clean and safe at all times reduces the number of injuries of children while they are in my care. One of the ways I do this is by supervising children at all times. Making sure all outlets are covered so children can’t access them. I make sure inside as well as outside there is nothing children can harm themselves on such as sharp objects or small items they can choke on. I ensure that all chemicals and cleaning supplies are put away out of the reach of children or stored in locked cabinets. Asthma is a chronic disease and its common occurrence has increased considerably over the last decade. In 2006 Asthma UK found that the UK had the highest occurrence of asthma sufferers (up to thirteen percent) from anywhere else in Europe, (Asthma UK, 2006). In the past asthmatics were treated intermittently, it was not recognised that their affliction was due to a chronic inflammatory process requiring long term management. Levy and Hamilton (1999) noted that the most important…
