1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
INFORMATION SYSTEN (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data. The study bridges business and computer science using the theoretical foundations of information and computation to study various business models and related algorithmic processes within a computer science discipline. Computer Information System(s) (CIS) is a field studying computers and algorithmic processes, including their principles, their software and hardware designs, their applications, and their impact on society while IS emphasizes functionality over design.
TRANSACTION PROCESSING SYSTEM (TPS) is an information processing system for business transactions involving the collection, modification and retrieval of all transaction data. Characteristics of a TPS include performance, reliability and consistency. TPS is also known as transaction processing or real-time processing.
The PAYROLL SYSTEM is used to maintain a list of employees’ names, addresses and employment information and is used to interactively calculate and print payroll checks. Payroll systems include any and all types of financial statements that involve the payment of an employer’s employees, as well as any statements that relate to the filing of employment taxes. Not only are statements included within these types of systems but the actual functions of printing, delivering or electronic transfer of employees’ funds are also included.
