Paine believes that one can find happiness in deism that cannot be found in other religions. He says this happiness can be found as other religions go beyond reason with the extreme miracles that can be found in their texts. Due to this, reason is taken away from the observer of the religion. However, with deism, one only acknowledges there is a God and the only miracle that is acknowledged is that of creation which can be easily observed. Since deists believe that once God created the universe, he no longer intervenes in it, they have a strong belief in free will and human choice. This means they believe people will act of their own accord, which is what they would claim the man committing murder was doing. This being said, the deist would not approve of murder as they believe that God gave mankind reason so that they would act morally. Moreover, some believe that the best way to worship God is to treat others kindly which, obviously, murder is not treating someone kindly. So, while the deist would not approve of the murder, they would explain the action of murder as being an act of free will.
A deist might see a child showing great intellectual knowledge as having the knowledge as the result of genetics. Deists believe that once God set the Earth into motion he no longer intervened, but set the Earth to function according to natural laws.
