Consumers have also begun to recycle more frequently which benefits the planet because its resources are not being consumed at a much higher rate. By recycling simple everyday items, such as glass or plastic, resources can be replenished. The cost of recycling is very economical because everyone profits from it. Landfills are filled with some materials that are not biodegradable and recycling these items reduces not only the amount of waste in the landfills, but also keeps energy consumption and pollution down. For example, recycling the newspaper or any type of paper will prevent…
What are you doing to help our environment? Are you recycling because it positively impacts the environment, or are you recycling because it is trendy? According to Alex Williams essay, “Buying into the Green Movement,” companies are turning an environmental movement into a fashion statement. Many people are only buying eco-friendly products because television and magazines advertise the movement as a new trend. The eco-friendly fashion statement is actually making consumers buy more, which defeats the purpose of conserving our planet. Although it is important to buy and pay attention to economically efficient products, sometimes less is actually more. The essay argues that many people are not cutting back on their usage of day-to-day items. William’s essay strongly shows his passion about the subject. Williams is able to persuade his audience to consume less through his use of logos by stating facts, using ethos to…
In order to reducing gasoline, we have to recycle our garbage. Recycle can reduce garbage such as plastic bags, bottles, papers or glass. For instance, when we buy foods, we can use our own containers instead of plastic bags. Another example is after finish drinking the water from the bottle; we can reuse it or use our own bottle. If all this is being reuse, human can reduce deforestation and help save environment. Besides, turn off electricity if unused. It can save thousands of carbon dioxide and buy product that have energy saving because it saves cost and save environment.…
Rodman D. Griffin’s article entitled “Alternative Energy: Can Renewable Energy Sources Replaces Fossil Fuels?” is about alternative methods of getting energy. The article goes into great detail of how America has gone into such an increase in using oil and other non-renewable resources. America spends billions of dollars a year on oil and gas to fuel the countries working class. This was incorporated in my paper along with other facts that Griffin uses throughout his article. His article gave me insight to the crisis that we face everyday and a new wave of thinking when it comes to alternative energy.…
Every resident in this community is reliant on outside sources that use non-renewable resources for power and to clean our water. Every day the resources used are depleted and will eventually run out; in the meantime we set idly by and watch prices escalate. Fossil fuels emit many pollutants (EPA, 2008) into the air and encourage global warming. Those outside sources subject this community to rate increases and dependency on weather conditions. Renewable energy is found in many forms, generated by the earth. Effectively harnessing these energies will reduce gas emissions (EPA, 2008.)…
Recycling and waste prevention are two very important ways to help address the issues of the environment concerning climate change. Recycling is a very beneficial factor that more individuals need to exercise in order to improve the environment’s pollution, reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and save energy and natural resources that are used to produce products from virgin materials rather than from recycled materials, which uses less energy and produces less harmful pollution. Recycling has many benefits that helps improve the earth’s conditions. Waste prevention and recycling are real ways to address these problems and begin to make a change. Recycling turns materials that would otherwise become waste into valuable resources, reducing the amount of natural resources needed to produce these same products. Collecting your used bottles, cans, and newspapers and taking them to a recycling bin or collection facility is just the first step, in a series of steps that generates a host of financial, environmental, and social returns. These benefits accrue locally as well as globally. Recycling protects and expands United States manufacturing jobs and increases United States competitiveness by creating more recycling jobs and facilities within the United States and producing more of our own products with recycled materials and being less dependent on outside countries and companies for these products. Recycling prevents pollution caused by the manufacturing of products from virgin materials.…
If people were to recycle it would save so much money because it saves money the factories use to make a whole new product. Also saves money the government and communities use to clean up parks, lakes, beaches, and just regular streets. Not only can you save recycling money but you can also earn money by doing so by turning in cans, bottles, newspapers, electronics, and many other things to recycling programs around you. Another way you can help your environment and benefit yourself are Recycle Banks which offer rewards for points they give for each item you recycle so the more you recycle the more points you get to spend on whatever you want.…
The first benefit is saving money. By being harmless to the environment, global warming can be reduced because Power Plants, the source of electricity, releases carbon dioxide, which damages our ozone layer. According to Steve Conner’s article “Melting Glaciers Are Caused by Man-made Global Warming”, there is a lag response of several decades which means that we are only seeing a fraction of the total anthropogenic effects on melting glaciers that we will eventually see as a result of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere now (Conner 2). There are many ways people can save money by being harmless and eco friendly. Many stores sell eco friendly products such as energy saving light bulbs, which use less energy than a normal light bulb and cost less. Another way of being eco friendly save people money is by basically using less energy with the same potential of a normal product, but for a cheaper cost. By using less energy we are protecting our environment by not releasing as much carbon dioxide caused by…
My perception of “going green” and using renewable energy is that it would prevent growth from happening. From the lights we use in our house, to the fuel we put in our vehicles, everything we do and enjoy these days requires some a source of energy and power. I do think it’s important to create a better future, however, if going green means taking up a ton of land to create new sources, I’m against it. In the past eight years of living in my city, it’s gone from cow pastures and empty fields, to shopping centers and houses. Everything I do is within a few miles from my home now and I love it. It’s hard to support a cause for change, when you’ve grown up seeing the opposite.…
For example, today many people that are building or remodeling their houses choose to use eco-friendly building materials to not only save up energy but to create a better environment or use up any reusable materials that are needed or cannot be replaced. You might be thinking, what is eco-friendly material? An eco-friendly building material is something that increases the order of energy used and decreases the impact on human well-being and basically our environment. So, it helps decrease the usage of taking up all the energy and things we need that are environment might/might not have. But using things that can damage our environment can cause: pollution, sickness, and a life of possibly a person and an animal. So, that’s why it’s important to find ways to keep it safe enough for everyone. Recycling is another kind of big thing for most people because it not only protects us but it helps animals survive as well. To help make this happen things like: recycling, using better materials for the environment such as in stores you can use reusable bags that aren’t made of plastic. So many ways to keep our earth a better place to be.…
Americans are very aware of the importance of “going green” as it reduces pollution and protects the earth from global warming. Going green generally includes recycling, buying environmentally-friendly products, energy efficient electronics, and living off the land. However, the reality is there are many obstacles to going green; the primary of which is cost effectiveness (Outka, 2012). The United States is currently in an economic crisis, and most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and struggling to pay their bills. Therefore, when faced with having to purchase an expensive item such as an appliance or automobile it is difficult to look beyond the price tag at the going green investment. While most citizens believe they are making a difference by recycling, the truth is a large percentage of our curbside recycling is either burned or sent to landfills because it has been contaminated due to ineffective recycling procedures, or it ends up traveling long distances, which increases the cost and air pollution (Kaiser, 2010). All of these facts prove that going green is not cost effective because the products are expensive and it take time (sometimes years) to see a savings or value, curb side recycling is wasteful, and recycling cost a substantial amount more than trash disposal.…
If you don't recycle paper, more trees will be cut down, reducing the world’s oxygen and increasing the carbon dioxide. If you don't recycle aluminum cans, lots of the world's energy will be used to make aluminum from scratch. Likewise for glass, this is easier to re-use than manufacture.…
Energy is an important part of our everyday lives. Energy can come in many different types, and forms it can be used for many different purposes. Energy has many different usages and can be converted from one form of usage to another form of usage depending on what the need is. One form of energy conversion is the use of food to supply people 's bodies with energy. Another form of energy is how coal is converted into electricity. Fuel is another form of energy that can be used for many different usages as well. Fuel is used for much different reason such as allowing our cars to function and our lawnmowers to cut grass. There are many different reasons why people use energy in the many different ways that we use it. Even though people rely on energy usage, some of the forms of energy we use are very harmful to the environment and even dangerous to ourselves. The harmful and dangerous fuels that we use can be changed to alternative methods of energy usage. There are two different types of alternative energy, which is known as renewable energy. Renewable energy is very resourceful and is able to be used because it is all around us there will not be a shortage of material and it is safer on every living thing and being. Energy and fuel usage just like everything else in the world has its advantages and disadvantages about using it. We must collectivity figure out which source of energy is right for everyone but for now we will find out which is best to use in your area.…
After reading about renewable energy not being beneficial for the environment, I see where my perceptual blocks and habits hindered my way of thinking. I automatically thought that renewable energy being beneficial for the environment was the right way to go because I thought it was green and it uses the earth’s natural sources to give us energy. I did not consider the viewpoints of these sources taking up too much land space and these sources being very costly compared to the land space used and the cost of running a nuclear powerplant. I have now changed my point of view.…
Recycling: recycling is not only about waste control; it is also part of the possible conservation of resources to repairing damage on the environment. Over the last few years there has been much talk about recycling and its impact however there is still a number of individuals who still do not know how recycling can help the environment. The earth has to work hard to produce and meet the needs of the growing population; people will need to work to preserve the resources the earth has in order to ensure that the environment as we know will still be around for future populations.…
