Pros And Cons Of Hiring Temporary Foreign Workers
Hiring temporary foreign workers has positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, employers can find solution for workload fluctuations such as maternity and disability leave, vacation, special projects, seasonal periods, and employee shortages. In addition, temporary foreign workers can bring diversity to an organization, which can lead to diverse skills, an extensive range of connections in the community, new knowledge and different points of view (Work BC, n.d.). On the negative side, hiring temporary foreign workers can bring problems such as communication issues due to language obstacles, the need for more time to train and adapt than a permanent worker, and morale issues due to the fact that sometimes foreign workers' wage and …show more content…
First, the employer has to make sure that international worker has the proper visa status, and the rights and benefits must be the same as a permanent employee. However, before hiring a temporary foreign worker, an organization has to go through a process, which is a labour market opinion (Work BC, n.d.). During this process, the business must be able to prove that it had tried to find Canadian workers to fill the position during a specific period, and it was not successful. After that, if the government is convinced that everything was done correctly, they will authorize the company to hire a foreign worker.
