Pros And Cons Of Imperialism

Imperialism is something that has been going on for many years that affected so many countries. What exactly is imperialism? Imperialism is when a stronger nation takes over a weaker nation and then dominates its political, economic, and cultural life (What is Imperialism?). Much of this was done with Diplomacy or military force. A lot of tragedy occurred during imperialism, which is why many of those “weaker nations” opposed it. There was a lot of reasons why people wanted to impose their own “civilizations” on unfamiliar cultures, some made sense while others did not. One reason as to why they did that was to gain more power. A lot of countries during that time wanted to gain more land, and also wanted more natural resources (Caswell). So they thought, what better way to do that than to take over weaker countries. These countries usually had more of an advantage since they had better weapons. The unfamiliar cultures of most weaker countries would seem very odd to the countries that were more advanced. It was because of that, the more advanced countries felt the need to change it and impose their own civilization. They would change many things from religion, and even their way of life completely. Of course this would anger many of those less advanced countries, which makes sense since it was very unfair to them. There are some people who would disagree and say that it was a good thing since they are exposed to another culture, and it can teach them something. That would be good, but many of those countries didn’t want to change their culture and way of life. That is what upset them the most because they were forced to do so, when they were already happy with the way that they
