Wild animals are not controlled by human directions and demands. They are free to roam and fully give in to every instinct. Wild animals live through natures cycle of finding means to survive by scavenging or hunting on prey, finding mates to reproduce, migrating and repeating as nature intended it to be. When people take these animals, who have not been domesticated whatsoever and treat them as they would a dog or cat they might have the same feelings as they would have towards any other pet but it is guaranteed that the wild animal is not experiencing the same feelings. Wild animals have specific diet, fitness, and environmental needs that would be impossible for the general person to provide to them. Since this is the case most of these animals who have been forced into a pet lifestyle suffer from health problems, tension build up, and depression. The animals suffer greatly and it is clear to see that they are not

Slavery formed the backbone of the South economically. It was just as much the political and social basis of Southern identity, too. With the invention of Eli Whitney’s cotton gin, southern plantation owners had to buy more slaves to keep up with the demand for cotton. There was an ever-present demand, particularly by Northern states, for cotton. There became a growing economic dependence on slavery. James Henry Hammond’s manual, Instructions to His Overseer (c. 1840-1850), was designed for use on his large South Carolina estate. He was a strong supporter of slavery and the originator of the famous line, “Cotton is king.”…

In the, “Exotic Animals Belong in the Wild,” essay, the author made a good, persuasive case. They used a lot of evidence to back up their case, and they also included a lot of details. It is quite clear that the author does not think people should be able to own exotic pets. First of all, the author included a lot of evidence to back up their case. For example, the author said, “Most animal rights groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States and Born Free USA, agree that wild animals are not meant to be kept as pets.”…

According to the Library of Congress, in Mexico exotic pets are allowed if registered with Mexico environmental authorities. There also has to be respect for certain regulations by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. If the regulations are not respected, people could get fined, their permit could be suspended, they could go to jail for thirty-six hours, and or their pet could be confiscated. In the US, there are five states that have no laws on keeping wild animals as pets. People need the realize this to ensure their safety. So, because of that I believe exotic animals should not be pets. Exotic animals are very dangerous and this is shown on lines 26-27 in “WIld Animals Aren’t Pets” an editorial by USA TODAY, where it says how a 2 year old girl from Florida was strangled to death by a 12 ft long Python. Another example is on lines 29-31, it states how a caretaker was mauled by a bear owned by a Cleveland Collector. People are dying because of exotic animals, people who did not cause their death.…

It is true that not all cases of an exotic pet have a negative outcome and the responsible ownership of these animals can happen. Although, this is not always the case: there are dangers involved in owning an exotic animal. Kukol, Zuzana reports in USA Today, "Dangers from exotic animals are low. On average in the United States, only 3.25 people per year are killed by captive animals." It also claims that most of the animals are not "stolen" from the wild, but born in captivity. Although 3.25 deaths may not be a lot, especially when compared to something like the number of deaths daily from a motor vehicle, it is still too many because these deaths are preventable by leaving animals in their natural habitats. The article "Animals Born in Captivity" says, "Wild animals usually prefer to stay away from people; captive raised animals on the other hand are often too familiar and social with humans. For a wild animal, losing its caution of humans is a bad thing, dangerous for the animal and possibly us." When wild animals encounter humans, many foreign germs and infections spread to both the animals and the humans. Similarly, feeding wild animals may attract more animals into a town or near people, which can easily spread diseases and expose both the animals and the humans to foreign, and potentially deadly, germs and…

In the editorial, Kukol describes that people should be able to own exotic animals if they can care for them properly. People shouldn't be allowed to take wild animals into their homes without anyone knowing if they have a criminal record or if they have a history of animal abuse. If irresponsible people are trusted with animals who need lots of care and attention, the animal might not survive. Lastly, if inexperienced people are taking care of exotic animals, they have more of a chance of getting injured by them than a professional. I read a piece called, “Can Animals Feel and Think?”…

So far we've been staring at the situation from a Human POV, but animals are also living creatures; with needs that have to be taken care of by us, the highest intellectual being. It has been proven that animals have emotions, not expressed as our own, but they can be happy, sad, angry, hungry, hurt. It is unfair and an abuse that humans are so self centered focusing only in themselves, and not in the other third of living creatures. Animals should be loved and cherished, especially dogs and cats, as they can bring immense joy to any family. They can become your next Netflix Pal, or your Running Coach, or even your Cuddle Buddy when you're having a rough…

Many people enjoy the company of a pet, whether it be a cat or a dog; these animals provide a person with companionship and affection. Pet owners become emotionally invested in their pets and treat them as if they are part of the family. Some pet owners will pamper and shower these animals with affection as well as let them have the run of the house. However, a person needs to remember animals do not function as humans or have the capacity to reason. There are people who believe wild or exotic animals can be domesticated as well as become family pets. When taking care of pets such as a lion or primate these animals require more attention and owner responsibility. There are many states within the United States that have laws banning the ownership of wild animals. However, people are still purchasing exotic animals as pets through the black market. Local communities should not allow residents to own wild animals as companions or breed exotic animals for profit because of the domestic environment, health hazards, as well as the additional financial and social responsibilities associated with owning such pets.…
