Introduction
The Radford Child Development Inc., a non-profit organization created by the Radford University Child Development Task Force, is proceeding with plans to construct a child care facility near campus. The child care facility will be built on Tyler Avenue in which the land was provided by a local real estate developer, Price-Williams. The exact location has not yet been announced. The child-care facility will only be for RU faculty and staff. There needs to be a child-care facility for students as well. This child-care …show more content…
Benefits On-Campus Daycare
The benefits of providing an on-campus daycare for students are as follows:
• Easy access for parents to visit their children throughout the day, ensuring that the quality of care for their child is being reached
• Increased student attendance and productivity at school because of the convenience of the daycare
• Reduced stress for students and reduced trips to the babysitter or off-campus daycares because the daycare will be conveniently located close to the child of the student. This will keep the student parent and child together at all times and cancel out any reason to leave early or be late due to having an outside babysitter.
Solutions
In order to allow daycare to be affordable for students, the amount charged to the student for daycare should be based on the student’s income along with how much assistance from Financial Aid they are receiving.

In a news release released to the public on October 10, 2013, it stated, “The RU Child Development Task Force conducted a survey of RU faculty and staff in November 2012 and found that 93 percent of the respondents said it was important to have a quality child care facility near campus (Osborne, 2013).” This is a great indication that students with children would loyally use the childcare program provided by Radford University. Also, the location being moved onto campus whether it is near the athletic building at the bridge or in Peters Hall where Education is the main focus would give parents a great sense of security. It should be in a building that is locked and can be accessed by a swipe card or security code given to the employees on duty,
Conclusion
The benefits of having a daycare for students with children are all sensibly reasonable and should be considered before finalizing any plans and making any decisions. Having a daycare for students at a convenient location and at an affordable cost will not only make things easier for students to finish college, but it will also increase the enrollment of students with children at Radford University.
