commitment to free trade. The American and European in the cartoon are shown in love with a physical wall between them labeled trade barrier. The wall reflects the cartoonist’s views of how trade barriers can cause a wall between two countries. If the wall is taken down, then the two countries will become much closer and be able to trust each other more, trade and resolve economic issues easier.
I agree with the artist’s viewpoint. I believe that free trade between the United States and Europe would bring the two countries closer and would also have many benefits. Economic growth would be promoted; cooperation solves problems, as well as competition driving down prices.
The photograph shows protesters voicing their opinion on free trade. The protesters’ signs show that they are not in favor of free trade because they believe that jobs are being taken away and unemployment is rising.
The protestor’s viewpoint is that no more free trade treaties should be made because the treaties are only eliminating American jobs.
The protestor’s signs read “Another free trade treaty tailored to eliminate American jobs.”
I personally disagree with the viewpoint of the people shown in the photograph. I believe that the pros of free trade outweigh the cons and that competition drives down prices, increases efficiency, and encourages innovation. I believe that making treaties with other countries and increasing the United States economic relationships is more important than a shift in the unemployment rate.
Two benefits of free trade are how growing employment options and wages can help reduce social problems such as unemployment and poverty. Another benefit of free trade is how it helps secure a market for domestic producers and provides a cushion against other countries’ trade barriers. Two costs of free trade are factories and workers will go to countries will go to countries where it is cheaper and will cause unemployment to rise. The lower prices that usually are caused by free trade can make it very difficult for newer businesses to compete or to encourage new businesses in a certain
industry.
Protectionism is the support of or use of economic policies that serve to restrict trade between countries. A country would base trade policy on protectionism on it because it can prevent small businesses and jobs from competition in other countries. If two countries are not getting along, they can place high taxes on their products so that the other country must pay more for the products that they need.
