Steve Jobs rough draft

I think that the subject of the first story and the story overall was to follow your heart. You should just trust yourself and let everything unfold. Make the decisions your own, not others. You are you,not a shadow of someone else. This message was repeated many times in the text as stated.

As stated in the text, Steve Jobs had chosen to drop out of college for his own reasons. (lines 19-23) He stopped ones that were required and started in on ones that he wanted to do. He then stated that that was one of the best decisions of his life. He did what he wanted, not others. He decided to not be bossed around.

Steve did what interested him,not others. It helped him see what he wanted to be. As the text states on

After reading the story twice I was able to understand how the first sentence of the story encompasses the story as a whole. The first sentence refers to how the narrator perceives adults as people who are constantly changing things with complete disregard to kids and their feelings. In my opinion, the author’s intent is to share the narrator’s strong opinion towards adults and towards her own personal feelings about herself and her beliefs. The narrator has a very strong spirit about her which becomes apparent very quickly, and is present throughout the entire story. The story begins with Hazel (the narrator) explaining one of the characters has decided to change his name back to his original name because he wants to get married.…

The first major theme is that people should never stop moving forward. In other words, this means that no matter what life throws at someone, people need to find the strength to pick them selves up. “These thoughts were going through my mind as I continued to run, not feeling my numb foot, not even realizing that I was still running, that I still owned a body that galloped down the road among thousands of others.”…

In the article “In Defense of the Liberal Arts”, Lane Wallace gives an example of what someone could do if they drop out of college. It also explains why staying in college and earning a degree is important. I agree with the article and believe that staying in school will benefit the student in the long run, even if they don’t think it is important.…

The narrator also encounters an interior conflict. He loves study and want to go back school. However, his father’s example let him feel he is liable to assist his father fishing. "I thought it was very much braver to spend a life doing what you really do not want rather than selfishly following forever your own dreams and inclinations" With this realization he decides to give up his "silly shallow selfish dream" of completing high school to enter into tradition and…

For example, Andy Blevins, mentioned in the article, made the decision early on to drop out of college and continue working his job in a Virginian supermarket to support the raising of his family. At the time, he was perfectly content with living a quiet life and raising his children humbly. College degree or not, this is the kind of life many Americans would aspire to. I think that if somebody finds what makes them happy in life, that’s all that matters. There’s no need to strive and work hard to succeed and become rich if you’re happy where you are. However, even Mr. Blevins eventually came to the realization that not having a college degree leaves him with very few options in life. If he were ever fired or laid-off from his job, for example, he would have no experience or credentials available to search for a new one. This is the type of situation, in my opinion, that most Americans should try to…

    Doorley Good Life

Doorley’s essay has changed the way that I look at life. Before I viewed the choices that we made, simply as choices. Now I realize that there is so much more behind every choice, and often the choices that we make are already made for us. Frequently we make our choices on the premise of what others have done before us, rather than doing what we want and, or need to do. Doorley’s essay also scares me, because it leads me to believe that no decision I’ve ever made was truly authentic due to all the surrounding influence that I face on a daily basis. Also, the influence of others is only getting stronger these days as we see it on social media and television constantly.…

College is a very difficult decision in many people's lives around the world. The stories of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs show that sometimes college would not be the best idea for some people. Even my father, who dropped out of college, is very successful and supports his family wealthily, while not having to do as much work as most people. However, these successful people went through difficult times and failed much in life, before becoming who they are now. While many people believe college is not worth it, it really is, because college is a pathway for many people into a great career, while also allowing graduates the gain of knowledge from the experience.…

The book mentions that only the people who were not part of Apple wanted to work in there, and the people who worked inside Apple, wanted out, and this was because they mentioned that working at Apple is totally different than working at any other company. Steve Jobs focused obsessively over the small details, and he was not afraid of saying “no” to requested ideas. But he did not focus on making money; he focused on the product’s quality. “Apple obsesses over the user experience, not revenue optimization”…
