Looking at the facts, over 14 million people view the first eight episodes since Stranger Things dropped in Netflix back in July 15. On the record, it is one of the most watched series in terms of being a Netflix original. It even topped Marvel’s Daredevil, according to TV Guide. Will there be a Stranger Things season 2?
The Duffer Brothers, the creators of the show, explain that they are ready to go for a second season. They already have an idea in mind. The show runners want to tell a 1984 story.
And they claim it is going to be darker and weirder. Think Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Some speculations indicate that Eleven has an alter-ego. It is going to be the Demogorgon - the deep psyche of Eleven. It is not impossible to imagine because at one point, the Demogorgon follows Eleven’s actions during one episode.
Since the season finale is open ended, a possible continuation is in sight. And, the important part is, Netflix also wanted an open-ending. The show runners and the media company hope to continue the story line. Which means the production of the series should start soon. But maybe not. Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, describes the situation for fans.
Regarding the renewal process, "We always want to take some time to be thoughtful about the process," says Sarandos. He adds that Stranger Things is currently going on a few weeks only. He wants fans to enjoy the first season before even thinking about the second installment.
Will Stranger Things season 2 get its renewal? It is too early to tell. At the moment though, it looks like it is going to have a future in Netflix because Netflix CEO Reed Hastings himself says that they would be “dumb not to renew.”
