Older fans are even more disappointed with the new fashion that is brought with the new sound. Artists in the past wore baggy clothes, and basketball sneakers. Artists now wear brands they have created on their own, or follow the trend of buying from overpriced pop-up shops such as Supreme or FTP.
Artist names have also changed a lot. Artists names are now more unique than they’ve ever been. Current names of popular artists are Xxxtentacion, Ski Mask The Slump God, Smokepurpp, Lil Uzi Vert, NBA Youngboy, Ugly God, Tekashi69, and Trippie Redd. Platforms like SoundCloud have given the opportunity for most kids to make their own music, so artists have very unique names to stand out. …show more content…
Artists are now doing what they want because they don’t have to sign with huge labels to succeed.
Platforms such as SoundCloud, Mymixtapez, and Spinrilla have given artists the opportunity to release music completely for free. A majority of artists that have become relevant this year gained popularity from these apps, especially SoundCloud. In the 2000s until recent years, artists would have to get noticed by big record companies, and have to sign their rights away to that company. Artists have often complained about how record labels restrict them to produce what they want and when, so these apps emerged and changed music
forever.
In the 2000s artists were mainly influenced by genres such as R&B, and Jazz. Current Hip-Hop is now influenced by Punk Rock, Metal, and Alternative. Beats have also evolved from a classic jazzy/808 beat to Rock influenced trap beats. Artists have evolved from the common Rapper to a Rockstar, Artists are more like Rockstar’s now, having huge shows, own clothing brands, most pits at shows, uniquely colored/ styled hair. If a rapper had pink, red, blue, or green hair 5-10 years ago it would be considered very odd, now most of the popular artists have unique colored hair.
Another big change to Hip-Hop is the evolution of shows. In the past artists would go on tour solo, or have one or two feature artists for a couple of months. Now artists go on tour less frequently, and play huge festivals more often. Festivals will feature 20-100s of artists, and be for 2-3 days. These festivals usually hold 500-50,000 people with ticket prices ranging from $100-$500. These festivals are very similar to the rock festivals of the past with huge names such as Metallica.
The change in Hip-Hop has been a huge one that some look down upon, but most see it as the rise of the youth. Kids who grew up listening to both rock and hip-hop are merged the two genres to create what we have today. Older listeners look down in disinterest, but it is the cycle of life. The older generation will always look down to the youths music, because the younger generation evolved it into their own sound.
