countries and taking whatever help he can get. He has gone above and beyond what was expected of him and is why he deserves to be reinstated as the political leader of Tibet. In the early 1940’s Chinese had organized a peace treaty with Tibet that would forego the invasion.
When Tibet delegates went to go meet with the Chinese government to sign the treaty, Chinese officials decided to change some laws in the treaty without Tibet knowing and sign the treaty on behalf of Tibet. This left Tibet with little to no rights and the worst part is the invasion plan was back on. In 1951, the Dalai Lama offered China peace in the deal and they accepted every offer except for the part where China had to leave Tibet. Although China still had full control over Tibet, Tibet received religious affairs, economic affairs and refugees working in China were set free to there homeland. This treaty negotiation was very successful even though Chinese troops were not pulled out of Tibet. The Dalai Lama’s next big step is to somehow make a deal with China to let Tibet become independent. leader. In 1950, China invaded Tibet taking full control over them. The Dalai Lama and other government officials had no choice but to exile. Ever since the invasion the Dalai Lama has been in exile and not been able to go back. The Dalai Lama travels the world seeking aid from organizations and countries trying to help out Tibet and there struggles. Tibet has received help from groups such as Amnesty International and Hollywood celebrities like Harrison Ford. The Dalai Lama is encouraging anyone to help out. The Dalai Lama’s activism has brought a bunch of people and groups to help Tibet and they have made a huge difference. The Tibetan war with China is being compared to World War Two’s holocaust because 6000 temples have been destroyed and at least one million people have been killed. The Dalai Lama is trying his best to get China out of Tibet but he needs the help from his fellow countries. In September of 1987 the Dalai Lama felt the need to take a crack at gaining some peace with China, so he created the Five Point Peace Plan.
At this point the Tibetan people are becoming eager to contribute to regional and world peace. Tibet is a peace-loving and non-violent place and wanted to talk to the Chinese man to man. This peace treaty consisted of five points and each point was a big step in order to gain peace with China. The first point was a transformation of the whole of Tibet into a zone of peace. The second point is to abandonment of China's population transfer policy which threatens the very existence of the Tibetans as a people. The third is to have some respect for the Tibetan people's fundamental human rights and democratic freedoms. The fourth is restoration and protection of Tibet's natural environment and the abandonment of China's use of Tibet for the production of nuclear weapons and dumping of nuclear waste and the last is commencement of earnest negotiations on the future status of Tibet and of relations between the Tibetan and Chinese peoples. These points were all accepted by the Chinese Government, to the delight of the Dalai Lama and this treaty has helped Tibet very much and is the final reason for why the Dalai Lama would be a terrific leader for the nation of
Tibet. The Dalai Lama approach’s each situation in a reasonable and realistic way, in a spirit of calmness and conciliation and with a view to finding a solution that is in the long term interest of all: the Tibetans, the Chinese, and all other people concerned. Tibetans and Chinese are distinct people, each with their own country, history, culture, language, and way of life. Differences among peoples must be recognized and respected. War with each other is not right, the people of China have had to of noticed the Dalai Lama’s efforts towards gaining peace and know that Tibet means no harm. Through all of the Dalai Lama’s treaties with China and activism throughout the world, he has helped Tibet so much and deserves to be reinstated as the political leader.
