1. The body is a physical thing.
2. The mind is nonphysical thing
3. The mind and body interact.
4. Physical and nonphysical things cannot interact. (Westphal, 2016)
These propositions are plausible, but they can't all be true. There can only be a combination of three, otherwise the statement is a …show more content…
Their assumption is there is no facet of nonphysical reminisce in a human. If the body is physical so is the mind. What makes the theory of physicalism fundamentally possible concept are the errors found in dualism and the scientific advancements of the brain. The problem with dualism is that there is no actual scientific evidence to help prove the idea right. It was no way of answering where the interaction between the body and mind happen or how does it occur. Also the Conservation of Energy law defends the physicalists' ideas. Energy can not be created or destroyed; hence, making the mind a physical thing. If consciousness where a nonphysical object then that would mean that energy is being created and that, proven by physics, is not possible. Another subject that positively affects physicalism is the advancement of brain research. Knowledge of the brain has grown substantially since Descartes' days. Biological and psychological findings have made it easier to understand the works of the brain; therefore causing a greater truth behind
