Pros And Cons Of The Trump University Scandal
Throughout the 2016 US presidential election, there were criticisms of Donald Trump's shady business practices with his university aptly named Trump University. Trump University is a for-profit University that was and is considered a scam by many of the people who attended trump university. A number of people who were dissatisfied with the education have grown so large that a class action lawsuit was filed against Trump University. “Former customers say they were misled by advertisements that said Donald Trump had hand-picked instructors for the program and that they would learn tricks to be successful that were used by Trump himself (Staglin Para.10)”. exactly what it says what it is in its name, it is an Institution owned and operated by a private company that seeks profit. While the idea for profit Institution is not bad on its own It is what these private companies such as Apollo Group, Inc. are doing with their own students. According to the 2012 Harkin report “13 percent of the nation's college enrollment, but account for about 47 percent of the defaults on loans. About 96 percent of students at for-profit Institutions take out loans, compared with about 13 percent at community colleges and 48 percent at four-year public universities” (Blumenstyk Para.4). This statistic startled me so much that it became my top priority to find out as much as I can about for-profit Institutions.
For-Profit Institutions are an unnecessary evil to every taxpayer pocket. For-Profit Institution gets 90% of their funds from the government (Kelchen Para.3). There is no reason for For-profit Institution 90% of their funds from the government. Not only you as a taxpayer, but it also hurts most students. The graduation rates of private for profit Institutions is unfathomably low. The graduation rate within six years of going to a private, nonprofit Institution is 23 percent (Undergraduate Retention and Graduation Rates Para.3). While the graduation rate within 6 years from a public institution is 59 percent. The reason why the graduation rates are so low because these for-profit put so much more into marketing and recruiting rather than in the staff and education of the students.22.7 percent of their funds are spent on marketing, advertising, admissions, and recruitment. While only 17.2% is spent on instruction (For Profit U Para.18). These For-Profit are extremely greedy and do not care if you get a degree from, just as long as you are in debt to them.
For-Profit institutions do have a weakness and it is that it has such a reliance on the government.
If Everyone understands the issues with For-Profit institutions and spread the facts of what For-Profit institutions are actually doing will slowly kill off the Private for-profit institutions. Next time when anyone votes for a mayor, Governor, Senator, or a state representative they can check if their candidate understands the issue of for profit institutions because the more people in power understand of the plagues the middle and lower class the better off everyone else is. While there may be benefits with for-profit institutions such as the ability to have a much more of a flexible schedule compared to public nonprofit institution. People believe For-profit institutions are for students who are working a full time and want a competitive advantage in their field. Full time employees are the ones who targeted to by For-Profit Institution because full time employees typically feel cornered and there are no better options. Full time employees do have much better options such as night school which is offered by a ton of institutions such as Kent state university and Baldwin Wallace

If For-profit schools are allowed to keep doing what they want it will ruin many students lives. For-profit colleges should not be allowed keep their own students trapped in mountain of debt with no degree. This issue is only amplified by the fact that college debt is one the easiest tracked forms of debt this give these for profit schools the ability takes directly from your paycheck in order to feed the for-profit institutions greed. If For-profit institutions were to be gotten rid of and all debts For-profit Institution were forgiven it help cut down the college debt and help, make sure no student will be caught in the trap of a for-profit institution.
Inform people about the issue for profit schools and how to it is just a needless they are to the wallet of the taxpayer. Make sure the next candidate understands the issue with For-Profit schools and at least try to tighten the budget of For-profit Institutions.
