Bump, set, and spike are the usual terms that most people use to describe volleyball. Not only are those terms being used incorrectly, volleyball is much more than just that. The correct way to address the three touches each side is allowed to use per play is pass, set, and hit. Volleyball is a great sport and is beneficial in many ways; unfortunately it also has its negatives. Ways that this sport can be beneficial to people can vary, some examples are spiritual, physical, mental, and more. Mostly all negatives fit into the category of physical injuries. A couple examples of known negatives that are caused from playing volleyball are bad knees from landing after jumping, dislocating shoulders, rolling ankles, spinal injuries, and worst of all, floor burns. Ok, so maybe floor burns are not the worst part of volleyball, and even if it was it would make up for how great of a sport it is.
To begin lets start of by getting an understanding of what volleyball truly is, how it is played, and everything else that lands in between. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by getting the ball to land on the other team's court, which measures 30 by 30 feet. A player on one of the teams begins a rally by serving the ball from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. Each team may touch the ball up to 3 times but individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively. The first two touches are used to set up for an attack. The first touch is considered a pass, and the second is called a set. An attack is an attempt to direct the ball back over the net in a way that will make it difficult for the receiving team to

I signed up for volleyball. I have only had two practices. Hitherto, I acquired the skills of passing the ball, serve overhand, and set the ball. I failed to attend the first practice. As a result, I do not know how to properly serve underhand. Practice is every Friday night from six “o” clock to six forty-five at Anderson Farm Park. Moreover drills, we play games. One game I relish is where a person serves the ball to the other side of the net and tries to hit someone. If they are not successful, they have to sit were the ball landed. If they do strike someone, they earn a point. Volleyball is an enjoyable experience.…

In this paper I will describe the head to toe mechanics of what a normal, athletic volleyball block consists of. This movement may seem simple when watching a player perform it on the court; however it is a very complex muscular movement. There will be three phases I will explain in this movement. First the athletic position or “start phase”, next the jumping motion or “active phase” and finally will be the landing known as the “ending phase”. I will be describing every motion, as well as what plane the muscles are moving in and whether the movement is isometric, concentric or eccentric.…

Today, I heard about a participation argument over trophies being gave for participating in sports. They get a trophy for playing the sport when they did not earn it. Parents don’t realize what they are doing to their kids by just giving them things without and work or earning it. My middle school volleyball coach has been the most influential person in my life. In 6th grade I had never picked up a volleyball until the day of tryouts. Miraculously I made the team. Coach Brittany helped to build up my confidence and helped to greatly build up my skills. I made the team again in seventh grade. This year turned out to be a bit harder. I was suppose to play middle front, which I loved dearly, but I didn't understand the transitions off the net, so she got mad at me in front of everyone and switched my position. It was one of the most embarrassing and humbling experiences of my life. That year I learned to love a position that I originally hated and Coach Brittany said to me, " When you're not the best, if you work hard,…

Getting into a varsity team in eighth grade shaped the rest of my high school years.…
