Wal-Mart is a company that is well known for destroying small towns and small businesses. There are some skeptics that would say that they provide jobs for the area, but they really do not look at the picture as to how many jobs they take away. Bringing in minimum wage jobs and taking out businesses that have been around for decades is a big downer, especially for someone like me that supports small business owners to the fullest. Wal-Mart has to be one of the worst places to work for and they are most certainly one of the worst places to shop at. I worked at a company that is similar in stature to Wal-Mart called Meijer, and where I live, they are what would be called a “worst nightmare” for the global conglomerate
in the Great Lakes region, but now they are becoming quite similar to the “monopoly.” Many can compare with the union situation that they were quite fearful as to when they would show up on the property. Even if the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers) union were to step in a problem, it seems as if they only protect the representatives that give input in meetings, they never take the time to personally come to you when you have a problem. The reason why Wal-Mart wants to keep them out is so they can consistently keep control of their workers without seeing the worry of hassle with a union and even more of a hassle from the courts when something goes wrong, they can just fire that employee and move on to the next one. Conglomerates that are known as monopolies, especially world-wide Wal-Mart, are targeted by many government agencies because they state that “We buy our products in the USA,” when we all know that they consistently buy their products from China, where the workers are treated badly and are told to lie when they are treated improperly. It goes to show that Wal-Mart does not care about the community or their workers, but how they care about how much they are making in their own pockets and destroying their competition.
