of welfare applicants is that the state will save money by kicking drug addicts off of welfare and thereby deny benefits. Some states have explicitly said that they don't want welfare dollars to be used to facilitate substance-abusing lifestyles. If most employees have to be drug tested for a job why shouldn't welfare applicants have to be drug tested, too? I believe implementing this law in every state would create positive effects on the Welfare system and protect those is need, which is what the system is intended to do. Help us make sure we are helping the right people! Even though assistance is out there to help those in need to get on the right foot and get out of poverty, States that conduct welfare drug testing combine paper questionnaires with physical drug testing. Many of the news articles that have been written about welfare drug testing have cited extremely low rates of positive test results as evidence showing the ineffectiveness of drug testing programs. There are numerous ways applicants can game the system. The main premise behind drug testing of welfare applicants is that the state will save money by kicking drug addicts off of welfare and thereby deny benefits. Because applicants can easily game the system, a lot of money is wasted by providing in the hands of a drug abuser, and assistance is there for the people in need not the ones abusing the system.

The main premise behind drug testing of welfare applicants is that the state will save money by kicking drug addicts off of welfare and thereby deny benefits. My reasoning behind the support for this law stems from being a parent that has to work a full time job in order to pay for childcare fees, while others receiving public assistance get discounts. The fairness is key, why should I have to work a full time job and pay a lot of money for health insurance and childcare all while some receiving public assistance get free health care and childcare covered by the state. Why shouldn’t they be tested if we are paying for their family to be taken care of? I believe if we the state are helping fund your expenses why shouldn’t we be able to have you pass a drug test letting us know that our money was well spent. This will always be a hard subject because some support and some do not but all in all we need to come to a result that will help today’s society. Fear is that applicants can easily game the
system.
By implementing a law for mandatory drug testing for those receiving welfare Aid or public assistance I believe our world would be a much safer place.
