Prosperity Gospel Research Paper
The term prosperity gospel, is in my opinion, a paradoxical term. The word prosperity can be in relation to a great deal of ideals, positive ideals, such as prosperity in happiness and success. But it can also have a negative connotation, like the one in this article, as the growing definition of prosperity is immediately associated with wealth and monetary success. The word gospel is holy as it's the voice of God's teaching. When two words are put together, one with negative conation, another with a positive, it doesn't seem right. Nor, does adhering to the teachings found in the gospel lead to a prosperous life, in a materialistic sense.

As a work of theological literature, Thomas Jefferson’s The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, or otherwise popularly known as the Jefferson Bible, has historically either been considered a philosophical masterpiece or shrugged off as irreverent blasphemy. From a fundamentalist point-of-view, Jefferson had desecrated the world’s most glorified and holy text, butchering doctrines by which countless people live with his illicit cutting-and-pasting. On the other hand, thinkers from the Enlightenment camp saw Jefferson’s aggressive interpretation of the New Testament as a necessary adaptation to modernity, a much-needed reconciliation of an outdated text with a changing…

The Holocaust is known for the mass murders of Jewish people under the power of Adolf Hitler and his Nazi party, which is also known as the National Socialist group, but there were many other groups that were persecuted during this time. The National Socialist group also persecuted Gypsies, Homosexuals, Blacks, handicapped and disabled, and last but not least Jehovah’s Witnesses. Jehovah’s Witnesses were not persecuted because of their racial appearances but because of their religion. Sometimes religion can be more important than your own life. The Jehovah’s Witnesses were targeted because of their refusal to swear loyalty to the Nazi’s or to serve in their armed forces. (Jehovah’s Witness: Article)…

Although not very important, I took the liberty this past month(Black History) to document my research to the age old question, "Was Jesus Black," after a small debate with my auntie Angelina Quarterman arguing that He was a Jew, and Jews are White(lol). The typical Hollywood image in which ancient Israelites look like fair-haired White Americans is way off the mark. The people of the bible were Semitic(Afro-Asiatic languages) and would have been dark- skinned. The racial emnity & equating Black with evil was an unfortunate development in later Europe, devised in part to justify African slavery.…

I learned a lot while watching the film "The Black Power Mixtape". I didn’t know much about Stokely Carmichael or Angela Davis and their part in the movement. However, after doing some research I got a better understanding of them and, I was surprised that I learned more about them online and through this documentary than in my history class in high school. I knew a little bit about the Black Panther party but not to the extent of them being the reason people have free breakfast and lunch at schools. This film gave better details as to the importance of the Black Panther party, in addition to the overall Black Power movement. But it wasn't until the end of the film that it really hit me that some people may never know about certain important…

Introduced in the post civil rights era, The Prosperity Gospel was preached to the Black community as a scripture in which to live their lives. Mainly, this religious practice was based upon having faith in God without any sin in your life and in return God will deliver to you all things on Earth. As this gospel developed over time it became more evident that preachers sought to make out that when “God delivers to you all things on Earth” these things would be in the form of material riches. The preaching of the Prosperity Gospel has been made out to emphasize individualism with conservative Christian values, subtly create inclusion & exclusion throughout the black community, and elevate corrupted African American pastors…

Over the centuries since Jesus walked on the earth, there have been many beliefs and doctrines that have been conceived. Many of these have not established their foundation in God’s Word, the Bible. This has caused a descent from how Christ initially established the Church those many years ago. Many religions today would claim to be the true Church of Jesus Christ. However, most have turned from Bible truths, and are therefore not the true Church of Jesus Christ. The Mormon Church is not the Church of Jesus Christ because they do not hold to the beliefs that the Bible is the complete, inerrant Word of God, salvation is by faith alone, and Jesus Christ has always been God.…

I have a Christian worldview. A worldview is the structure by which an individual or group makes sense of the world. Philip Graham Ryken describes it as “our orientation to reality.” It seeks answers to questions like, “How did we get here?” and “In what is our ultimate hope?” Ryken believes all worldviews are inherently religious because they reveal our “fundamental convictions,” particularly what we believe about God. Further, he believes we all develop a worldview, whether consciously or subconsciously, with regard to the fundamental question of origin, problem, and hope. There are many factors which contribute to one’s worldview, including one’s background, experiences, education, socio-economic circumstances and nationality. Of course,…

Human nature is defined in the dictionary as, “the psychological and social qualities that characterize humankind, especially in contrast with other living things” (dictionary.com, 2015). The purpose of God creating man was to love and to serve God. God wanted man to carry our His plan for life and His creation. This all changed when Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command. In Genesis…

I met Meghan on a double date with my boyfriend and his best friend Corey. We all went to dinner and then were going to go see a movie afterwards. The conversation started because Matt and I asked her and Corey if they would be ok with us giving thanks for our meal. She was not surprised we wanted to pray, but was surprised that it was not just the generic “God is good, God is great, thank you for the food we ate.”…

Evangelism is a passion of mine and this semester has helped me to develop more as a person and strengthen my passion for evangelism. Usually when you hear the word Evangelism most of the time, you will start to fear because of rejection. During my Christian walk, sometimes I have experienced the fear of rejection as it relates to Evangelism. However, this semester has taught me not to fear." Evangelism is standing up for your faith even if everyone else remains seated 1(Earley and Wheeler p.32)". This semester I have learned and developed new perceptions and challenges about evangelism, which has challenged my way of thinking. At first glance, when you hear or see the word evangelism you immediately think about sharing the gospel and that is true. That is only one part of Evangelism because listening is very important as well. This has caused me to think differently about Evangelism because now I understand how important it is to listen to people while witnessing. Evangelism can be challenging but the way I look at it now is that I have a part in fulfilling the great commission at all cost. Evangelism is about relationship building that involves changing a person ability to trust and receive the gospel. This course has reminded me that Evangelism does not come without great sacrifice. It requires you putting forth effort and work to share gospel with someone that does not believe. Anytime you deal with people and sharing the gospel you have to be patient. It has challenged me to become an effective witness for Christ because as I grow spiritually it is a reflection of Christ. This semester has reminded me that there has to be a balance between the incarnational and information Apologetics. Many people say that…
