The issue and main focus in Pankhurst’s journal was the start and evolution of prostitution. Prostitution regards to having sexual activity in exchange for money or payments. Sometimes other benefits can be made as well and this activity was also known as “commercial sex”. The person who is apart of this activity as a sex worker is known as the “prostitute”. Prostitution is one of the branches in the sex industry.
Ethiopia was a country where there was rural civilization with a large population that lived countryside, but there were also parts of the town where it was just more than villages. It was a very poverty country that had the population dealing with major problems with wealth. Besides that fact, there was minimal labor and domestic slavery. Prostitution did exist during these ages, and the emergence of prostitution became quite evident. Prostitutes were definitely not rare in Ethiopia. There were “numerous” prostitutes in the country and many of them were considered very rich and well dressed. They were found traveling from one part of the country to the other. He was able to emphasize the beginning of the prostitution era in the country and how it developed to becoming a well-known activity. Pankhurst went really into detail about how prostitution affected the country in all matters. He discussed the topic about how foreign travelers were not attracted to these activities and how it would keep them away from being in the country. Ethiopia had started developing brothels in major parts of the southern towns. It had grown into a legitimate business that included officers that checked documents before a soldier can go
