As a kid, we usually don’t focus on small things like what ethnic title society labels us, we just want to be kids and have fun. Growing up we start to realize that these things aren't small at all. It’s actually a huge deal for people to question what ethnic label they are referred to as. Not only that, but it’s a bigger question what people label themselves as. I was introduced as to being Mexican. Made sense since both parents were born in Mexico. But I was born in the U.S. so it made me wonder, What exactly does it mean to be Mexican, American, Hispanic or Latino? What do all these ethnic terms society labels us mean?

Mexican-Americans aren't undocumented or “illegal”. The fact that many people state things like that shows a lot about Mexican-Americans being a Minority. Another thing society says about us is that we are rapist, thiefs , and drug dealers. An example would be Mr. Donald Trump. He states in one of his speeches that Mexicans are bringing drug dealers, rapists, and other criminals. However, I believe that is not true. Many of the Mexicans I see around the city are very hard workers selling cotton candy trying to make a living in this hard world.
Although many people and groups of society portray us as being criminals, in reality we are nothing close to that. Mexicans and Mexican-Americans work hard to prove that they are not what people see them as. I see many Mexicans working in the street rather than begging for money. The “paletero” or the “elotero” are very hard workers to support themselves as well as their loved ones. “We are the rotating gears in American that make it function and prevent it from breaking down” Mexican-Americans who shadow the native Mexicans are the ones who keep America
