PSY 220 Week 2 Assignment Attachment Style and Relationships

Robert Sternberg created his triangular theory of love based on three dimensions: passion, intimacy, and commitment. The degree to which a relationship demonstrates these three dimensions determines the type of love relationship. People begin love relationships with those who care for them as children. These early relationships can have a great impact on their adult relationships.
Write a 350- to 700-word response summarizing the three dimensions of love and how they interrelate to identify a specific type of love relationship.
Review the First Attachment exercise on pp. 22 and 23.
Write a 700- to 1,050-word response explaining how you believe an individual’s attachment style can affect the types of love relationships he or she has.

Inside the womb we start out as an egg, but one of the first major structures that begin to form is the brain. The brain itself is a complex structure that leaves much to be learned from it. It controls a person’s entire body function and movements whether it be walking, talking, or even going to the bathroom. What most people do not know is that there are five major structures of the brain. The first of the five is the myelencephalon ( the Medulla). The Myelencephalon (or medulla) is the posterior portion of the brain stem. Not surprisingly then, the medulla is composed largely of tracts carrying signals between the rest of the brain and the body. An interesting part of the myelencephalon from a psychological perspective is the reticular formation. It is a complex network of about 100 tiny nuclei that occupies the central core of the brain stem from the posterior boundary of the myelencephalon to the anterior boundary of the midbrain. It is so named because of its netlike appearance (reticulum means "little net"). Sometimes the reticular formation is referred to as the reticular activating system because parts of it seem to play a role in arousal. The various nuclei of the reticular formation are involved in a variety of functions, however — including sleep, attention (definitely important for language), movement, the maintenance of muscle tone, and various cardiac, circulatory, and respiratory reflexes. Accordingly, referring to this collection of nuclei as a system can be misleading. Generally, the myelencephalon does not play an important role in language production or comprehension.…

I would have to say yes that feel the results were accurate. Some of the questions I had to really put some thought into, and I tend to like those types of exercises because it makes me feel like I am actually putting my brain to use. IQ tests cannot be statistically demonstrated to measure innate intelligence because there is no way to verify their accuracy without changing the common definitions of intelligence to be a list of quantifiable real-life criteria to test accuracy. No such list can match the common definitions of innate intelligence, or even come close because the intelligence component of such criteria, free of bias, cannot be defined, separated, and quantified. Imagine that person A) goes to a good school, where they often practice questions similar to IQ tests. Sometimes they even take IQ tests. Person B goes to a bad school, they don't practice similar questions or IQ tests. Both are presented an IQ test. It is possible that person B) is more intelligent, but not having practiced an IQ test is not prepared for it. They are expected to do worse and probably will. I believe that IQ tests only measure one aspect of intelligence and may not be valid across every person. Some people may be more skilled in certain areas, and some people may not have had the background to excel in IQ tests. So, having IQ tests to compare different people is not very…

Modern attachment theory, founded by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, studied the relationship between children and their caregivers. Attachment theory was applied to adult romantic relationships in the late 1980’s by Cindy Hazan and Phillip Shaver. They found interactions between adult romantic partners and interactions between children and their caregivers shared similarities. There are four main attachment styles identified in both adults and children. The adult styles are secure, anxious-preoccupied, dismissive-avoidant, and fearful-avoidant. The children styles are secure, anxious-ambivalent, anxious-avoidant, and disorganized. The core principles of attachment theory apply to both types of relationships.…

All of us have been in love at least once in our lives. But have you ever wondered why people behave in a certain way in a relationship? Think about the people around you. Do you have a particular friend whom is always in and out of a relationship? Was it the other party’s fault for the break up? Or was it your friend’s problem? The foundation of a relationship depends on one’s attachment style. Attachment refers to the particular way you relate to others, and style of attachment is the way we perceive and respond to intimacy in romantic relationships. Our attachment styles affect our partner selection, interaction, and relationship progress; as it determines if it evolves into a short-term or long-term relationship. Relationship attachment…
