Chapter (2.1 - 2.6, 3.3 - 3.4)
Week 3
1.
Sketch a velocity versus time and displacement versus time for a car approaching a red traffic light and then leaves it as the light turn green.
2.
Jimmy took 8 hrs to drive his Civic from KL to Kota Bharu which was about 400 km away. What was the average speed of Jimmy in km/h? Why, in this case was the term average speed used over velocity?
3.
A ball rolls with a velocity of 20 m/s on the ground and comes to a stop in 3 minutes.
(a) Determine the ball’s acceleration.
(b) How far does the ball moves before coming to a stop?
4.
A particle moves in a straight line with varying velocity as shown by the velocity time graph in Figure 1. (The graph is not drawn to …show more content…

5.
Describe briefly the motion of the particle.
Determine the acceleration of the particle during the first 3 seconds.
Calculate the distance traveled during the first 6 seconds.
When will the particle come to a stop if the total distance covered is 76 m?
What is the acceleration of the particle that causes it to stop?
A bullet is shot from a gun in its horizontal position with a muzzle velocity of 850 m/s as shown in Figure 2. Determine the vertical drop, Sy of the bullet after travelling through a horizontal distance of 100 m.

On a flat golf course a golf ball is hit with an initial velocity 30 m/s at an angle of 40o and hit ground. Determine
(a) the flight time
(b) the range of the golf ball
(c) the highest vertical displacement achieved

7.
A net ball player throws a ball at a velocity 8 m/s in the direction 50o above the horizontal line. The ring is 8.0 m above the ball and 2.5 m from the ball position horizontally. (a) Calculate the time the ball reaches the peak.
(b) Calculate the horizontal displacement when the ball reaches the
peak.
(c) Justify that the ball miss the ring.
(d) Discuss the position of peak so that the ball goes into the ring if the launching velocity is made constant.
8.
A fire cracker is launched into the air at 25 m/s and at angle 40o from the horizontal.
1 second after achieving its peak the cracker exploded into fragments. Determine
(a) time taken for projectile to explode after the launching,
(b) the horizontal displacement when it explodes,
(c) velocity of the projectile when it explodes,
(d) height from the ground when it explodes.
