Abstract
Family settings that are filled with continuing conflict between family members become incapable of accomplishing a mutual respect for one another. This instability needs to be defused in order for the family to live in harmony. Psychoanalytic approach to family counseling is a theory that consists of multiple practices and techniques that are exercised to address the needs of families. This therapy was developed by Sigmund Freud who was the pioneer in treating psychological disorders. Integrating biblical Scripture and prayer can be challenging when using the psychoanalytic approach. Maintain the balance of psychological aspect and teaching biblical based theories are necessary in any therapeutic profession. It is imperative that counselors be educated in numerous theoretical models as well how to incorporate biblical perspectives in counseling. Incorporating these elements while taking into account the psychoanalytic approach to family counseling is an encouraging and successful technique for counseling. This paper will highlight the psychoanalytic approach to family counseling and how integrating Scriptures and prayer can be beneficial to the clients.
