All of us face stress in our lives. Sometimes stress can be good to us, a stressful event may make us stronger, forcing us to make an attempt to solve the problem. However, stress can be harmful and affect us in various ways if we do not cope with it properly, it can link to psychophysiological disorders and prevent people from dealing with life adequately. In order to have a higher sense of well-being, there are several types of stress coping strategies we can employ to improve our mood during stress times.

Emotion-focused coping and problem-focused coping are the most successful strategies to deal with stress (Folkma & Moskowitz, 2000, 2004; Baker and Berenbaum, 2007). In emotion-focused coping, we can change the interpretation and the way we think about the threads that lead to stress, by means of perceiving problems positively, everything happens with a reason and has its bright side. It is useful to relieve stress when I perceive the problem or situation as a challenge, and believe it can make me more mature and stronger after facing it.

In problem-focused coping, we can try to change the situation by altering the source of stress and solving the problem. For example, if we fail in an exam, we could set a study plan to improve the performance next time. I always focus on how to control the situation so that stress can be reduced when the situation is changed.

Some types of stress coping strategy are proved to be less effective. One of it is avoidant coping. People escape the situation by drinking alcohol, taking drugs and overeating to avoid facing the stressful problem. But such kind of stress coping only leads to a delay of facing the problem, making the situation even worse (Roesch et al., 2005). I have tried to escape stress by playing computer games, it is useful at the time I play

    It may seem that there’s nothing you can do about stress. But you always have more control than you might think. Stress management starts with identifying the sources of stress in your life. For example, in dealing with an exam as a stressor, different people will have a range of different coping responses. Problem-focused strategy has three steps-taking control, information seeking and evaluating the pros and cons. Comparing with the emotional-focused strategy, as a manger, I would personally prefer using the problem-focused strategy in coping with stress, since it can high effectively removes the stressor, and deals with the root cause of the specific problem. This way, it will provide a long-term solution. In contrast, emotional-focused stragety means the reduction of negative emotional responses associated with stresses, for example embarrassment and anxiety, is less effective than using a problem-focused strategy. Reasons are emotional-focused strategy are more focused on emotions, rather than the actual root cause of the problem therefore it cannot provide long-term solution. As a manager, I would ensure my employees are using the problem-focused strategy in the following way-figure out what is the root cause of the problem, and try to motivate employees to change the relationship between themselves and stressor, for example, escaping from the stress or removing the stress; Secondly, I will make sure if my employees really understand the situation for example using the internet, and help them solving the problem, so that to avoid having the same problem in the future.     Coping is a technique in which people use when dealing with stressful events. It is referred to anything that one might feel, think, and/or do in order to reduce stress. Because people cope differently, there are several different coping methods that people undergo based on what stressful event they have experienced. One particular coping method, meaning-focused coping, is ways that people find to accomplish the meaning of a stressful situation. When something tragic happens in one’s life, let’s say a house fire, one may look at it as if “everything happens for a reason” or even, “Material things can be replaced, but people cannot, so it’s good no one is hurt.” When dealing with the meaning-focused coping strategy, one decreases the stress by reframing the stress of being rejected. Psychologist, Susan Folkman, argues that people disregard the role that positive emotion plays in coping and reinstates our coping energy. Folkman and Lazarus introduced a stress coping model in 1984 and later on updated it. The initial model displayed an arrangement of activities following an event: Appraisal, Coping, Outcome, Emotion (Britton, 2009). In the model were two pathways from a threatening event that led to positive emotion; as the second pathway led to unfavorable distress.
