Amy Sze’s company downsized three times in two year
s. As she had been a productive and dependable employee, her bosses managed to find a job for her each time. Amy was assigned three different jobs over the two years pe riod. Johnny, Amy’s current boss, thought she was smart and the kind of employee the company had to keep once the economic crisis was over. Johnny and the other mana gers thought Amy was lucky to have a job in the company.
However, as far as Amy was concerned, the last two years had been a nightmare. Every time she adjusted to a new job, the company announc ed another restructuring. She ended up in another position and she had to learn a new a ssignment all over again. She experienced work-related stress trying to do a good job. She felt guilty as a survivor and wondered why she was any better than the person she replaced. She felt frustrated and afraid to tell Johnny how she felt.
To vent her frustration, Amy sought a new job. She secured an interview in another company and was offered a job. She accepted it with out hesitation. Johnny was astonished to receive Amy’s resignation letter. He did not understand why she was unhappy and had decided to leave the company.

    With child abuse cases on the rise, children are being used as evidence in the courtroom; this involves them giving accurate eye witness testimony. Parker and Carranza conducted a laboratory study in 1989 to study the accuracy of age in eye witness testimony. They showed a mock crime scene video to a sample of primary school children and a sample of college students. They found that the primary school children were more likely to ‘just pick’ a criminal from a line up compared to college students who were hesitant about choosing anyone but they were more likely to identify the correct person; concluding that adults were more likely to give accurate eye witness testimonies. On the other hand though Ceci and Bruck completed a study that concluded children may have more accurate eye witness testimonies as they have no prejudices or schemas. They don’t stereotype people and are more likely to tell you it ‘how it is’. The lack of a schema in children means that they can sometimes be more useful than adult eye witness testimonies as they have no preconceptions of the crime/incident. Goodman and Schaff showed that the language used when asking a child a question may affect a child’s recall because of their level of understanding and word development. Overall it has to be said that children give a less detailed EWT but this doesn’t mean that it is any less accurate. Young children are more prone to leading questions and are more likely to change their answer if a question is repeatedly asked because they feel they need to impress someone and the judge is ‘correct’ on comparison to them.…

    The Stanford prison experiment was a study of psychological effects and what the effects could do to a prisoner and prison guard. The experiment was taken placed at Stanford University from August fourteenth to the twentieth in 1971, which was led by a professor named Philip Zimbardo. US Navy and Marine Corps was very interested in the experiment and wanted to know the cause and effects it could have on a military guard and prisoner. So the US Office of Naval Research funded money toward the experiment. Out of seventy-five male students only twenty-four were selected for the experiment. The twenty-four males were randomly assigned roles to either become a prisoner or prison guard. The experiment was set to happen in the basement of the Stanford psychology building. Professor Zimbardo, had high expectations for the experiment and the participants adapted to their roles well beyond what Zimbardo thought. The guards became powerful and knew that they had power over the prisoners. They took the role as a guard so far as to torture the prisoners. Many of the prisoners accepted the abuse and for others who didn’t accepted the abuse, they were harassed. The experiment became out of control but that did not affect Zimbardo (who was the superintendent in the experiment), and actually let the abuse and harassment to continue. The experiment was supposed to last for two week but after two of the prisoners quit early the entire experiment was stopped. After only day six the two prisoners could not handle another minute longer. During the experiment certain parts were filmed and are still available to look at even today.…
