Psychopathic Serial Killer Summary
Rebecca Taylor LaBrode discusses in her article, “Etiology of the Psychopathic Serial Killer: An Analysis of Antisocial Personality Disorder, Psychopathy, and Serial Killer Personality and Crime Scene Characteristic," LaBrode discusses the treatment available to individuals with psychological disorders, and she connects personality disorders that come from children with past traumatic events, but she also states that the disorder can be treated from an early stage in life. Labrode specifically says,
“Personality becomes increasingly more solidified over time, so problematic behaviors, such as violence, are more easily treated when an individual is at an earlier developmental level. This belief has lead increasing interest in studying children

Upbringing, I believe, has a heavy weight on shaping people's personalities. Addiction is a new way for me to look at the problem of serial killings and has explained some things for me, such as, why do they continue to kill even when the police are hot on their tracks? Sometimes it would be smart for a serial killer to lay low when they become high profile, but their addiction doesn't allow them to do this. We still might not have a complete understanding of how a serial killers mind works, but I believe we are slowly progressing. Recent confessions of serial killers has also given us a priceless tool for looking into the mind of these people. When BTK was taken into custody, he finally began to confess and didn't stop. He ended up spending thirty three hours in interrogation, walking investigators through his crimes and telling them what was going through his mind. John Wayne Gacy allowed psychologists to ask him questions up until he was put to death. These encounters gave what we call "normal people" a chance to look into the head of a psychopath. Maybe someday we can pinpoint the exact factors for creating a serial killer, and prevent them from a full…

Psychopathy is a personality disorder it’s also known as sociopathic personality or psychopathic personality or antisocial personality disorder. Psychopaths can’t be understood in terms of antisocial rearing or development. Sadly they are seen as “Monsters” in our society. Serial killers have been around all of human history. Their sinister ways of killing have been a good anchor for movie making in Hollywood, leading to many well known movies like “It”, which was based off of a real life story. Other movies would be based off on serial killers like the Zodiac killer and Jack the Ripper. Jack the Ripper was the infamous serial killer in London during the 17th century. He would kill women around the ages of 40’s and all of them would have one thing in common, they were all prostitutes. The way that he would kill them is always astonishing. He would rape the women and then cut their bodies open. The first time he ever killed, he took…

Understanding the relationship between antisocial behaviour and development is observable through two distinct categories identified by Moffitt’s developmental taxonomy. This theory recognized that during our early development, it would be possible to classify antisocial behaviour as something that would either persist over our lifetime or occur sporadically during our adolescence and then desist. In this analysis, the differences and limitations of the two types within Moffitt’s theory will be discussed and the relation between antisocial behaviour and development will be identified.…

Ed Gein, Elizabeth Bathory, Jeffery Dahmer, and Jack the Ripper are all famous serial killers that unmercifully killed their victims and by no coincidence were all victims themselves of antisocial personality disorder. The essential feature of the antisocial personality disorder is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and the violation of, the rights of others. This pattern begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood (Dual Diagnosis and the Antisocial Personality Disorder). One heart-wrenching characteristic people with this disorder have is the lack of remorse for their victims or anyone involved. The exact causes of antisocial personality disorder are still unknown, but are believed to be hereditary or from the upbringing environment. "Antisocial personality disorder is often misunderstood by both professionals and laypeople (Treatment – Antisocial Personality Disorder)." Because of this reality, treatment can be difficult and often lead to failure. Antisocial personality disorder has numerous causes and loads of deceiving factors with very limited treatment.…

Everyone’s childhood plays an extremely important role in determining who they will become and who they grow up to be. Your childhood molds and shapes you in every way. But not everyone’s childhood is happy and picture perfect, as some kids grow up in an environment that can set them up for hate and failure, which can ruin their chances for success. The childhood people have is the base that they build on to form their psychological base in adulthood (Vronsky, 2007). So one extremely interesting factor contributing to the makings of a female serial killer is abuse that is experienced in their childhoods. The FBI study has stated and confirmed that most to all serial killers come from an unstable,…

We now have an idea of what makes a serial killer, but why do they do it? What triggers them? We believe we have control over our impulses, no matter how angry we get. Do serial killers lack this moral safety latch? Dennis Nilsen, who committed the murders of fifteen young men in London, had said “I wish I could stop but I could not. I had no other thrill or happiness.” Many serial killers have Antisocial Personality Disorder, meaning they appear normal and charming, but in reality it’s a mental illness in which a persons way of thinking and perceiving situations are abnormal and destructive. It’s their “Mask of Sanity.” Others find a…

Serial killer tendencies often arise from young ages. They arise from trauma in the household, such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse (Knight, 2006). Their childhoods are filled with neglect and social deprivation. Several have family members who have a history with drug addiction, criminal behavior, and mental illness (Simons, 2001). The fathers of these individuals are either nonexistent or domineering (Knight, 2006). The mothers share either a cold and apathetic relationship or one in which the mother smothers the child, which often includes abuse.…
