ADDICTION TO THE INTERNET IS “AN ILLNESS”

ACTIVITY 1: WARM UP OBJECTIVE: to create interest in the topic of NET-addiction | CLASS ORGANISATION: whole-class activity | ESTIMATED TIME: 5 minutes | MATERIALS: Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English | DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: The teacher asks the students to come up with personal definitions and explanations of the word “addiction”. The word-family is also elicited from the students, with examples in personal sentences. ( addict, addicted, addiction, addictive) |

ACTIVITY 2: KEY-WORDS AND PHRASES OBJECTIVE: to practise vocabulary related to the topic of Internet to check comprehension of reading text | CLASS ORGANISATION: pair work, individual work | ESTIMATED TIME: 20-25 minutes | MATERIALS: handouts | DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: a). Students are given handouts containing a text, a vocabulary exercise and a comprehension check. In pairs, they are asked to match each word and phrase from the box with the right corresponding definition. Answers are checked with the whole class. b). Next, students – individually - read the text and do tasks in exercises 2 and 3 on the same handout. Answers are checked, again, with the whole class. |
