Along with Old San Juan, resort-filled
Condado is the most popular neighborhood for visitors thanks to its excellent beachfront and fine boutiques, and these two sections of the capital share the highest concentration of restaurants and lodging options.
There's also much to explore as the city extends to the south and east, including the beachfront neighborhoods of Ocean Park and Isla Verde; up-and-coming Santurce with its numerous art galleries; the financial district of Hato Rey; and the college-town vibe in Rio Piedras. Within just a couple hours' drive from San Juan are Puerto Rico's rarest natural resources and some of the best beaches and coral reefs in the Caribbean. The El Yunque rainforest,
Luquillo Beach and the Rio Camuy Cave Park all make excellent day trips. Information by Rough

In 1508, Juan Ponce de León founded the original settlement, Caparra (named after the province
Caceres, Spain, birthplace of the then-governor of Spain's Caribbean territories, Nicolas de Ovando).
The ruins of Caparra are known as the Pueblo Viejo sector of Guaynabo, behind the almost land-locked harbor just to the west of the present San Juan metropolitan area. In 1509, the settlement

San Juan is one of the hottest places in the Caribbean but there is plenty of shade in the old town’s streets. Puerto Rico has one of the most unvarying climates in the world—it is usually 70-80 degrees all year long, day or night! Puerto Rico enjoys summer-like conditions year-round, with the daytime highs ranging from 75° to 85°F. Summer is the rainy season and there is almost a daily brief afternoon thunderstorm. Summer months have a higher rainfall than from November to April, when there is little rain. Water temperature remains relatively constant and varies no more than 4 degrees from the air temperature.Traffic is horrendous and walkers often overtake the tourist buses. There is a free green open-air trolley (not air-conditioned) that runs a loop around Old San Juan and offers continous commentary about the area. You can hop on and off if you get tired but you could actually walk faster!

These islands are essentially a strip of land completely surrounded by water, which means you’ll get a good view wherever you go. With many resorts, restaurants, and coastal areas, these islands have all you need.…

Puerto Rico has been under US sovereignty since the Spanish American War in 1898, where United States gained territorial control of Puerto Rico, along with Philippines and Guam. Since this time, United States and Puerto Rico have engaged in a very peculiar relationship; and to this date, Puerto Rico remains a territory. In 1917, part of the Jones-Shafroth act, the United States Congress granted the people of Puerto Rico US citizenship, the right to have an elected state senate, established a Bill of Rights, and authorized the election of a Resident Commissioner (a non-voting representative) to a four year term. Consequently, with their new United States citizenship, many Puerto Ricans were drafted into World War I and all following wars with United States involvement in which a national military draft was in effect. In the summer of 1952, President Harry S. Truman, signed in to law approving the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico Constitution. However, the term commonwealth that is commonly used to describe the relationship between United States and Puerto Rico does not hold the same meanings such as other States like Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky and Massachusetts [ (N/a, 2011) ].…

The Caribbean made up of approximately 7,000 small islands and is the most tourist-dependent region, and one of the most vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change. Tourism is an important economic driver within the Caribbean. It contributes to GDP, provides employment, foreign exchange and investments which is very beneficial to the Caribbean states, increasing the standards of living and aiding in the journey to becoming first world countries. The only problem we have is that we face a serious threat from rising sea levels, coral bleaching, increasingly powerful tropical hurricanes and longer periods of drought.…

    My favorite place

My favorite place is Old Harbour, Jamaica. Old Harbour is a small town approximately 30 miles west of Kingston, the capital of Jamaica. Originally called Esquivel, after its Spanish founder, it was famous for shipbuilding. Old Harbour Bay, as the locals call it, is the largest fishing village on the southeast side of the island. Here you will find, many locals congregating in the open air market, awaiting the arrival of the fishermen to return from the “sea” with the day’s freshest catch. While sipping “Red Stripe”, I see local fishermen coming ashore with their precious cargo (fish, crab, lobster, and conch) in their old, shabby worn fishing boats. Immediately, the fish scaler’s, who have waited patiently for hours, begin to work for their money and/or food for the day. I am amazed by the varying colors of skin tones, Jamaicans of African descent (dark brown skin), East Indian descent (fair complexion), known as “Coolie”, and Chinese descent (light complexion), sometimes called “Chiney”. Although “Countrymen” now, each brings a skill set from traditions of past generations in net and boat mending techniques. I watch in utter amazement, as a fisherman uses antiquated tools and techniques for repairing his boat. I close my eyes and listen to the sensual and sultry sounds of reggae music. I hear seagulls squawking about and in the distance, faintly hear the sounds of children’s laughter, as the aroma of fish frying, steamed lobster and crab, permeate the air. As the sun begins to set, a warm breeze blows in from the “sea”, I think to myself, how astounding the beauty and peacefulness of Old Harbor Bay!…
