Pulleys In Pride And Prejudice
I am on the crew for the theater department at my high school. One problem that I had was for the play Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl. So, one of the things that had to be made was an elevator that functioned as well as having to rain inside the elevator as well. The first thing that had to be done was that the crew had to figure out how an elevator worked While being able to build it in the time limit that we had. Another problem that was added to making the elevator was that it had to be able to be taken apart so it could be transported to other schools along with the rest of the set. It was decided that a belt and pulley system would be used to make the elevator operational. Because the elevator had to carry a person safely the technical director …show more content…
There were four crew members that were needed to operate the elevator first, someone started the elevator by pulling on a rope on another pulley that was connected to the cart to help move the cart slowly he was also the main control of the elevator, while the second and third person held the cables that were connected to the first set of pulleys so they would not get caught on the cart, finally, the fourth person was on a little platform acting as a counterweight for the actor on the cart. Because time was running short to finish the elevator, making the elevator rain was not as good as we would have wanted it to be but it was working. The way that it rained was there were was a water bottle that had holes in it that after pulling a rope tied to it would angle the bottle so the water would flow out of the holes in it. Because the elevator had to be raining multiple times there was extra water bottles that were set up so after one was emptied then a full one could replace it. In the end all of the problems that were arising were solved while in time for the plays to happen as they were suppose to

I think the author wrote this novel to show today’s society of the difficulties of finding true love. The main character, Janie Crawford goes through three marriages throughout the novel. Janie’s first marriage is to Logan Killicks, which is arranged by her grandmother, Nanny. She is married to Logan because he is a wealthy and respectful man. Nanny thinking that Logan would be able to take well care of her granddaughter throughout life, she marries her to him. However, when Janie is asked to help Logan with farming, she feels as if she is being used as a slave and plans to run away. When she runs away, she marries another man by the name of Joe (Jody) Starks. Jody is a higher class man compared to Janie and eventually, Janie feels as if she…

One of the most powerful motivators in life is pride. People will go against their wants, desires, and even die for what they are prideful about. Pride can encourage a person to do something so small that has very minimal effect on anything or something so large that the world is changed as a result. Prejudice is one of many things that challenge the idea of pride. Prejudice is prejudgment that is not based on reasons or actual experiences. In simple terms, prejudice is judging a book by its cover. A person can feel prejudice towards a single individual or to an entire group of people, but in either sense the effects are felt by the victims none the less. Both pride and prejudice are major themes that Lorraine Hansberry weaved throughout her play A Raisin in the Sun and in turn these themes have affected the main characters in many different ways.…

Of all the books I’ve read throughout high school, I feel that Pride and Prejudice epitomizes politics the most. Throughout the story, there’s this class struggle that manifests itself between the lower, middle, and upper class. Members of the upper class, the Bingleys and the Darcys, are portrayed as being “snobbish” and “prideful” people, and they aren’t afraid to flaunt their wealthy status to others. The Bennets, on the other hand, are part of the middle class and are constantly reminded of their inferiority to the upper class by specific members of the upper class. For example, Catherine De Bough, who attempted to prevent Elizabeth from marrying her nephew, Mr. Darcy, so their family’s reputation wouldn’t be tarnished, or Miss Bingley, who constantly degraded Elizabeth and Jane for attracting more successful men despite their lower social status. Then there’s the people of the lower class like Wickham, whose one goal is to assimilate with the upper class by marrying a woman who exudes wealthiness. Despite this inter-class struggle, Jane and Elizabeth both end up marrying higher class men, challenging the notion that in-class marriage is the only acceptable way to find one’s significant other.…

“He was the proudest, most disagreeable man in the world, and everybody hoped we would never come there again.” (3) These were the feelings that Miss Elizabeth Bennet possessed at the start of Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen weaved a marvelous tale of love in its rarest and truest form. This love was formed out of a once burning hatred. The transformations throughout Austen’s masterpiece shows how true love fights through the boundary of pride and prejudice which exists in the society of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Jane Austen captivates us through the characters of Darcy and Elizabeth through their altering feelings for one another and the world causing anxiety for the readers at first but ultimately an overwhelming relief for the readers.…

In Classical Literature, there are few works which can boast having a huge societal impact upon their publication, yet still cause a modern reader to sit at the edge of their seat turning the page in anticipation of what happens next. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is one of these evident pieces. In Pride and Prejudice, the life as a middle-class English woman in the 19th Century was portrayed so astutely that the world around her was forever altered. The novel is also not only readable, but stimulating, with each page alluring the reader to find out what happens next to the unforgettable characters. But how is Austen able to accomplish this? What is the quality that makes her work stand out from the rest? It is evident through textual analysis that Jane Austen uses distortion as a device to aid not only in her plot development, but also in order to express her views on societal issues within Pride and Prejudice. This distortion is most prominently seen in the amplified characters, exaggerated circumstances, and the misrepresented interactions.…

Lincoln’s pure ability to distinguish an individual’s circumstance to better understand their behavior, however bad, are not that of a prejudice man. For instance regarding the issue of slavery, Lincoln did not hate the South, he hated the institution of slavery in itself. Lincoln would state that the people of the south, “are just what we would be in their situation” and also believed that the vast majority of southern whites were rational men that bared human sympathies and when it became necessary they would abolish slavery on their own. Lincoln was a man of great principle and inclination to see situations from both sides of the coin, his humanitarian views were said to have surpassed his time.…

A novel of manners typically deals with satirizing a particular time period and the behaviors accepted in it, or it describes one person or set of persons and their desires to defy the socially acceptable behaviors or sentiments of the day. In terms of Pride and Prejudice, this most strongly applies to Elizabeth who refuses to marry for anything less than passion and love, who admits she will most likely die an old maid for refusing to settle for anything less.…

Pride and Prejudice reflect the strictly regimented nature of life for the middle and upper classes in Regency England. Jane Austen satirizes this kind of class-consciousness, particularly in the character of Mr. Collins, who though Mr. Collins offers an extreme example, he is not the one to hold such view. His conception of the importance class is shared, among other by Mr. Darcy who believes in the dignity of his lineage.…

In Much Ado About Nothing, William Shakespeare depicts both Benedick and Beatrice as characters with one major flaw: both are full of pride. With the use of the masquerade scene, as well as the orchard scenes, Shakespeare allows the characters to realize their awry characteristic. By realizing their erroneous pride, Benedick and Beatrice are able to correct this and not only become better citizens, but fall in love.…

If you take a child and show him a picture of a black family if each time he reaches for the picture of the black family he receives a hard pinch that makes him cry followed by the word “bad” he will associate the black family with being bad. If this action is repeated eventually when the child sees a black person he will dislike black people.…
