Via is August’s big sister and is very caring towards Auggie and is extremely protective of him. Via helps the reader get a better understanding of what August looks like and what he’s like at home. An example for this is when via says, “His eyes are about an inch below where they should be, about half way down his cheeks. They slant downward at an extreme angle, like diagonal slits down his face. His eyelids sag so much you can see the red in his eyes. It looks like a piece of invisible string pulling his eyelids down. He doesn’t have eyebrows or eye lashes and his nose is far to big for his face. He doesn’t have cheek bones and people sometimes assume he’s been burnt in a fire because all his features are melted. He has a few scars because of all the surgeries his upper teeth splay out. A piece of his hip bone was put into his jaw and he has no chin at all”. The author put this in the novel because it makes he reader think how hard it would be to have a face like that and can’t help feeling sorry for him.
In Wonder by R.J Palacio we follow the journey of August Pullman who has a very rare genetic deformity. In this essay I discussed the point of view of Jack, Summer and Via.
