In the scenario given, without an alternative, OCF probably has to initiate changes in its capital structure to drive off hostile takeover attempts from Wickes. There are a few a ways the capital structure can be changed, i) recapitalize by retiring equity with debt (swap), ii) simply assume more debt, iii) issue more shares, or iv)buy back shares. An under levered firm can increase its debt ratio by borrowing money and buying back stock or paying a super dividend to its stock holders. Borrowing money increases the debt level, while buying back stock reduces number of outstanding shares, thereby decreasing MVE and paying dividend reduces stock price, thereby reducing MVE as well. OCF can also use debt for equity swap thereby increasing leverage very fast. A key feature of recapitalization is also that the target company may issue more stock to its management there by giving them more control after recapitalization.…

Operation Pedestal could be described as one of the most important successes for the Allies in World War II. Little celebration is given to it despite having turned the war in Britain's favour. During the summer of 1942, the key position of the British base in Malta, the tiny island south of Italy, was put under siege. The base enabled the Allies to boycott Axis supply convoys destined for North Africa and prevented the Axis powers from gaining a monopoly of the Mediterranean. Operation Pedestal, was Britain's final attempt to save Malta, and had it falied, the outcome of World War II may have been very different.…

    Stair Climbing Machine

    • 365 Words

There are many exercise machines in today’s world there but one of the most popular seems to be the stair climber machine. If a stair climber machine is going to be designed the information needed to be collected would vary widely. One would need to compute its angle of incline. Other things needed are the maximum and minimum velocities, the distance, vertical height of the machine, and a stopwatch to count the amount of time a person uses it. To calculate the weight of a person in Newtons a scale would be used. The reason the angle of incline of the machine is so important is to ensure the highest amount of welfare as possible. An angle that is too steep will make scaling the stairs dangerous to the user. The maximum height needs to be taken into consideration so that the machine is not too large and not too minuscule. It would also assist in the calculation of the power. The person using the machine is allowed to change the velocity of the stairs. The minimum velocity will be very low speed and maximum will be mildly fast. The distance of the step machine must be obtained to calculate the distance people used it to climb the stairs. To calculate power, it would be the time the person used the machine and the person’s weight and distance climbed. The velocity is also required to set on the machine. In order to know how much power was developed by a the stair climbing machine you would have to know how much time work was done. The machine then would count how much time you were on the machine while you were doing that work and divide that into the work. In order for the machine to know how much work you did it would have to know the change in kinetic energy that you created. In order to find the change in kinetic energy the person would have to input their mass and the machine would also have to record the initial and final velocity that the individual was traveling. This is all needed in order to properly construct a stair climbing machine.…
