Punishment In Romeo And Juliet
During Act III of Romeo and Juliet Romeo gets punished and can never go back into Verona ever again, which means he has to leave his family and his newly married wife Juliet. This all started because Mercutio and Tybalt started to fight, but Tybalt really wanted to fight Romeo because he crashed the party. Romeo insisted not to because he is married to his cousin Juliet, but he doesn't know that. Romeo gets in the way of Mercutio and Tybalt fighting trying to break the two up and Tybalt's sword kills Mercutio under Romeo’s arm. Romeo rages and fights back at Tybalt and kills him. After Romeo kills Tybalt he quickly goes to Friar’s cell. When Romeo found out about his punishment he was so devastated and actually tries to kill himself. Romeo

    It began with Mercutio and Tybalt almost jokingly fighting. Romeo, though, was worried and tried to end the fight, but instead inflicted more damage. When Romeo comes in between the two, Tybalt’s sword pierced Mercutio from under Romeo’s arm, delivering the blow that would cause the deaths of all of them. Mercutio said, “Why the devil came you between us? I was hurt under your arm.” (p. 231), and Romeo responded, “I thought all for the best”(p. 231). This incident, at least, was an accident. Tybalt had not intended to kill Mercutio, but Romeo messed them up by trying to pull Mercutio away. Romeo didn’t intend for him to be killed either, he was just attempting to stop the fighting. Because Mercutio died, Romeo was filled with anger, and in order to avenge Mercutio, decided to kill Tybalt, which led to his banishment.     First, if they did not have a feud Tybalt would have never challenged Romeo to a duel. It was the feud that made Tybalt hate the Montagues. He thought that because Romeo was a Montague he should have never went to the party and it made him angry that he did. Next, Juliet’s family hated Romeo more after he killed Tybalt.
