Do beauty contests really serve a purpose of today’s society??? Today, there are large numbers of beauty contests bouncing from all possible corners of the society, for both men as well as women covering all age groups. The concept of beauty contests or so called “Beauty Pageants” is no more the same as it used to be earlier. “Beauty with Brains” was the golden and the most important rule of earlier time’s beauty pageants. Earlier the beauty pageants didn’t only meant to have a perfect hour glass figure but more than that. It involved each and every bit of beauty that the title of the contest stands for. Beauty Pageants earlier not only concentrated on the physical appearance of contestants but also on their overall personality from the way they walk to the way they talk, from the way they carry themselves to the way how really comfortable they are, from the way they smile to the way they really genuinely meant that smile, their etiquettes and above all the confidence and the intelligence with which they act, react, talk and answer the questions truly and honestly. If not writing in these many words then the simplest would be to say that beauty contests earlier meant that one should not only have a beautiful face and body but a true and a pure heart, mind and soul.
But today the concept remains no more the same. The beauty pageants today are all about beauty and beauty. The brain concept has vanished somewhere above the head of the organizers. Today, it’s all about physical appearance and being fake all the time. Woman in beauty contests are judged largely on their physical appearance, rather than on any other quality they might possess. Though these pageants try to emphasize on the fact that it is not about physical beauty alone but also about one’s personality, the truth remains that most beauty pageants have as their criteria for participation a minimum height and weight requirement. I really can’t remember if anyone ever said, be it in
