The Australian War Memorial has a temple, a world class museum and an extensive archive. The purpose of the Memorial is to remember those Australian soldiers who died in war, sacrificing themselves to help our country. The Memorial was revealed in 1941 and was designed by Emil Sodersten and John Crust. It is regarded as one of the most remarkable memorials of its type in the world. The temple has the Hall of Memory in it which holds the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. In May 1917, the Australian War Records Section was opened. The Memorial lists all the men and woman’s names who worked in WW1 and WW2. It also lists the town they were born in.

Many of the science programs are devoted to inspiring children in Australia to love, learn and enjoy science. Questacon opened in 1980. It was developed by Professor Mike Gore who was a physics lecturer from the Australian National University. He then went on to become the director of Questacon. To pay for the costs of Questacon getting built, Japanese Government and business payed ¥1 billion which was half of the capital cost of $19.64 million. Questacon has over 200 staff working there along with 65 Volunteer Explainers. The director of all those people is Professor Graham Durant. 400,000 people visit Questacon each year and over 660,000 see some of Questacon’s exhibitions in other museums and centres around Australia and overseas. Questacon has Outreach Programmes which go on the road each year and they visit around 110,000 towns and communities in Australia. It was to be built on Capital Hill. A competition started up to see who could come up with the best design. Architects from 29 different countries started designing what it would look and they had to choose out of 329 entries. The winner of the competition was Romaldo Giurgola. His design meant that they had to bury most of the building under Capital Hill and then having an enormous spire which held the Australian Flag. There are some copies of patterns on the New Parliament House that there was on the Old Parliament House. There is a slight resemblance even though there is a massive difference in size. Inside the New Parliament house, it is split into 4 main zones. There is the House of Representatives chamber, the Senate chamber, a central zone and the executive government wing. The House of Representatives is also known as the people’s house. The house has 150 members and it is where government is formed. The Senate chamber has 76 senators, twelve from each state and two from each of the mainland territories. The central zone has public spaces and ceremonial
