The criminal justice career path is a very serious one because what will happen in a person’s life could be decided by it. One tiny mistake could end up turning into something major. Not being knowledgeable in criminal justice terminology could make things worse. If a police officer did not know and understand the terms associated with his or her job as well as know and understand the various laws that exist then this could cause him or her to perform incorrectly on the job. A crime scene investigator requires an exact science. One minor mistake could cause the investigator to lose evidence so important to help in solving a…

Since I was a young, I have always wanted to work in the field of law enforcement. As I grew up, I got into an explorer's post and began exploring the field. Following numerous ride alongs and training related to the field, I knew that this was the job that I wanted to do. I gave myself the long-term goal of getting a job as a police officer. In order for me to achieve this goal, I knew that I would have to become certified through the law enforcement academy. This is the primary reason to why I am applying to the academy, However, there are a few other reasons to me wanting to go through this process. One of the reasons is to learn how to be the best the best police officer I can be. I have heard many positive things about Fox Valley Tech’s…
I most definitely think that anyone who submits their application to even start out just as a police officer should have an associate’s degree. The reason for this is because you will get applicants who are more serious about their job. Some businesses similar to Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), will generate an automatic email back to applicants informing him or her that an associate’s degree is required in order to apply. Although CCA does not require an applicant to have at least an associate's ’degree, I think they should require one as well as anyone who works in law enforcement. The person who teaches promotional tests is not going to teach the same curriculum as a degreed teacher. I wish they would because I have seen reports…
I believe as I reflect on the things that we went through in the course and the other things I’ve researched on the internet there were a lot of different populations that the criminal justice system serves. One thing that I have seen is a need to fix the overcrowding in most of the prisons and jails in the United States. There seems to be to many misdemeanor and non-violent crimes in the corrections division of the prison system. We need to focus on more of violent crimes and figure out what to do with the non-violent crimes. By no means should any crime go unpunished but we have to as a group of professionals figure this out and how to deal with it.…
Attending the University of Phoenix to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice has matured me in a career path. Criminal Justice has always been a career choice of mine next to psychology, but after having an opportunity to have some of the best and worst professors, I have learned a lot. Criminal Justice is definitely a place I want to be. Justice to me is fairness and it is what the Criminal Justice System is supposed to offer fairness. Justice to me is also about making a difference between what is ethically and lawfully right or wrong. In the Criminal Justice System fairness is not always a given. There are disparities and discrimination that still exists today within the Criminal Justice System and this should not be. Disparity and discrimination are two major factors in our society.…
The individuals that work in the field of law enforcement today are presented with issues and concerns unlike any faced by those of the past. The changing face of crimes and criminal activity in this country and around the world are at the root of many of these challenges. In this country, the most significant issue is the shift to a more multicultural society. There are also concerns regarding police corruption, use of deadly force, racial profiling and the job hazards of policing in an increasingly dangerous world. The way police agencies enforce the laws and work to provide a safe environment to those they serve has perhaps never been more complex than it is today. The…
To be a Probation officer and accomplish my goals first I must get a degree in Criminal Justice. “Aspiring probation officers may apply to criminal justice program with concentration in correction”Retrieved from education-portal.com/how_to_become_a_probation_officer.html” I also found other research. “Some are employed by private security agencies, as well by private correctional agency that contract with the government. Retrieved from Thewashingtonpost.com.” This says to me that if I go to collage and earn my degree I will have a better life financially and more time on my hands. Other websites have proven this point too. “Most collage graduates earn a lot more money during their working years than people who stop their education in high…
When I joined the police department, I knew I wanted to be a part of something great. I wanted to leave a legacy and make an impression on others. I was the first in my family to choose a career in law enforcement, so initially, I was unaware of the challenges this career field came with. My mom was a teacher, and my dad worked in the printing business. Both were successful in their chosen fields, but they were blind to the demands required for a fulfilling career in law enforcement. To be successful, I would need to be observant of those around me who had found success. I would need to mirror their ways and incorporate their habits into my own. I would need to learn from their failures. Most importantly, I would need to learn what made them…
As for question four, let them know that I graduated from ASU with a 3.95 GPA and that I am very passionate in pursuing a job in social work emphasizing my interest in criminal justice. Tell them that one of my fondest memories from college was taking a field trip to a medium level security prison and that this was when I knew I wanted to pursue a career criminal justice. Let them know that I want to help people and that I especially want to prevent children from taking the wrong path in life. That is the gist of what you need to say. Feel free to improvise, just highlight my love for kids and helping people. Thanks so…
The quest for knowledge and understanding drives individuals to explore the unknown and live out the thoughts that once consumed their minds. Experience and formed opinions are the end results of these journeys; assumptions are either reinforced or shattered, but either way the truth is a little bit closer than before. Dark and gray areas consume the field of criminal justice; only personal experience can serve as a light. Participating in the internship program offered through the College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University has become that light. Throughout this semester the knowledge acquired from SHSU criminal justice classes combined with the experiences gained from the Dallas County Adult Probation Department has produced an exceptional understanding of fact and theory pertaining to the field of criminal justice. Courses such as Criminology 262 and the Fundamentals of Criminal Law 264 contributed to the personal triumph gained from involvement in the internship program and allowed individual strengths and weaknesses to arise.…

Since I was a small child, seven or eight years of age, my desire to be in law enforcement has remained strong. I have expired the searching of other careers, and come up short. As I grew older, I consulted with those I respect, seeking their wisdom in my career path. This choice had not been fashioned lightly. I am convinced, at this point in my life, serving as a law enforcement officer is my calling. My ability to serve our community and nation, as a law enforcement officer, is a great passion of mine. I am compelled to serve those around me, by protecting the innocent and carrying out justice to the guilty.…
Today’s officer does not have the luxury of just enforcement of the law. Today’s officer is expected to be the community spokes person on and off duty, the role model on and off duty, crime scene expert, an expert in ever changing case law, an expert in driving, marksmanship, defensive tactics, a parent to everyone’s children, and an expert in the thousands…
