and safely. Also, I have had a large amount of experience working in a group to complete a task and obtain reproducible results. This will help me in this course because I will be able to communicate effectively with others and present my results in a coherent way.
As research outside of the regular A-level specification, I completed an extended project qualification on the topic of genetic engineering and cloning.
I chose these topics because I have an interest in how biology can be used to help people outside the realm of mainstream medicine. In addition, these issues are not regularly exposed to the media in a positive light so I feel that not many people know about the potential benefits of these new technologies.
For work experience, I completed a week in my local pharmacy in which I worked alongside the pharmacists and pharmacy assistants. In this week, I developed my computer and organisation skills and I feel this gives me relevant experience to excel in my course. This experience helped me gain a greater understanding of the inner workings of a pharmacy.
In my personal life, I have taken part in various activities to develop my skills beyond the classroom. An example of this is taking part in the National Citizen Service during the summer after I completed my GCSE exams. During this time, I faced many challenges and pushed myself to complete tasks I never would have done otherwise. As a group, we worked together to support a mental health charity and raise funds and awareness for people suffering with mental health issues. One thing we did was hold a bake sale in Derby train station to raise money for their charity, we also did bucket collections in the town centre and made posters to raise awareness for the
cause.
One of my main hobbies outside of school is playing the flute and attending regular lessons. This has taught me many skills that can be transferred to my everyday life such as perseverance and determination to improve. I enjoy practicing and learning new songs to boost my confidence and abilities and this is something I apply to my school life when learning new skills.
