Prompt #2 Rough Draft To achieve a dream one has to embody certain characteristics to help one succeed. By dissecting Chris Gardner in the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, his characteristics helps illustrate what a person must have to accomplish what one truly wants in life. His determination, efficiency, and belief in himself equal a great recipe for success. Chris Gardner’s determination was unbelievable when it came to running after his American Dream of becoming a stockbroker. For example, when he submitted his application, he knew it wouldn’t get him noticed, for he had no college experience. He was then determined to get his name out there; therefore, he spoke to the chairman as much as he could, to be able to discuss why he should be given a chance. Nevertheless, it got his foot in the door, in other words, an interview. The day of his interview showed true determination. He had to stay in jail the night before and ended up running to the interview with the clothes he had on the previous day. Any other person would’ve thought that this interview just wasn’t meant to be, but not Gardner. He needed this interview and this job, and he was that determined to get it. His people skills got him through the interview and the internship he needed. Once he became an intern his determination did not subside. In another example, after he was late for a meeting with an important potential client, the next day he went to the man’s house to apologize and tempted to talk business then. Although turned down, he met more potential clients in return when the man who turned him down invited him to a football game. He was always determined to go above and beyond when it came to getting the job. In the end it all paid off. In addition to his determination, his efficiency was very important when it came to his success. Time was of the essences to Chris Gardner, and he used every bit of it.
